I GOT THIS FROM A FRIEND OF MINE" Peak Antifreeze Support Anti-Hunters From: SCI - SE Michigan Bowhunters Chapter 10-21-03. Peak Antifreeze Support Anti-Hunters. A member of our chapter recently bought four gallons of Peak Antifreeze. It was a good deal offering a $1 per gallon rebate. Later on, while filling out the rebate form he noticed you could either request the $4 rebate, or donate it to the American Humane Association (AHA). Upon checking out the AHA web site, here are some of the things they had to say about hunting:
*Bear baiting is an unsporting, unethical, and barbaric practice used by trophy hunters to lure bears to food to shoot them point-blank.
*As many animal advocates know, the vast majority of animals that die in these barbaric traps are used for luxury fur garments.
*American Humane opposes the hunting of any living creature for fun, trophy, or for simple sport. American Humane believes that sport hunting is a form of exploitation of animals for the entertainment of the hunter and is contrary to the values of compassion and respect for all life that inform American Humane's mission.
*American Humane considers sport hunting a violation of the inherent integrity of animals and disruptive of the natural balance of the environment through human manipulation, and calls for positive action to be taken to prevent such cruelties.
Needless to say, the anti-freeze was returned to the store immediately, with an explanation to the store manager. Not only that, but this member had the good sense to call Edward Powderly (Brand Manager, PEAK Performance Products) to express his displeasure with the company's promotion. First off, Mr. Powderly claimed that the AHA did not have a stance against hunting and that they were being confused with the HSUS... ...Then he was read the quotes from the AHA website. Next, Mr. Powderly claimed that although they might have an anti-hunting stance that they are not "actively involved in putting a stop to hunting... ...Then the numerous legislative anti-hunting bills that the AHA is actively lobbying for (per their website) was pointed out to him. Next, Mr. Powderly claimed that the money generated from his promotion was going to be a very small amount compared to the AHA's total budget... ...To which the point was made very clear that the principle of even one penny of a hunter's money going to fund such activities is entirely unacceptable and that this practice will not be tolerated by America's sportsmen. At that point, and running out of lame excuses, Mr. Powderly became rather smug, at one point stating that if a small group of hunters don't want to buy Peak antifreeze, that's fine... buy another brand... many of them are made by Peak and we wouldn't even know we were buying it. It was suggested to Mr. Powderly that they be more careful who they are giving money to. He stated that this promotion was only going to last about another month and a half (until December), as if that were a good thing. Let's make it a month and a half Mr. Powderly and Peak antifreeze will not forget! ACTION: Peak is evidently not aware that there are millions of hunters across the country, and that we are indeed a segment of the population that requires some respect when it comes to "politically correct" promotions. We will not tolerate having our discretional expense money being turned over to those who aim to put an end to our traditional, family-oriented, hunting lifestyle, and to North America's extremely successful wildlife management system, which is primarily funded by sportsman. We need to hit them hard! Let's assure this type of "mistake" doesn't happen again. Please forward this message to all outdoor sports enthusiast on your list. Gentlemen, It has recently come to my attention that Peak Antifreeze is supporting the anti-hunting organization, the American Humane Association (AHA), through an optional donated rebate offer. As a concerned hunter and sportsman, I will not be buying your products until you cease supporting this organization. The principle of even one penny of a hunter's money going to fund such an organization is entirely unacceptable and this practice will not go unnoticed or be tolerated by America's sportsmen. Please consider ceasing all support for the AHA immediately. Until you stop the support, I intend to inform everyone I can in America's hunting community of your poor decision.

Isn't it a little ironic that a product that has been the demise of many an animal is supporting this cause.

Thanks; I will try to get it on as many forums as is possible!!!( I am hoping others will do the same). YES power in numbers; and one mistake I think hunters have been making for much too long is :(for whatever reason(s)..) keeping silent about these things. If we as a group SPEAK OUT LOUDLY about the things that are important to us as a group......THEY will pay attention...they have to...we ARE major buying force...it may not be "PC" to support us....but it's "$C" to remember who does the spending!!!

This whole "PC" thing is amazing to me! In a country where freedom of speech is so valued; it seems silly to me for most to think they must do so in a "PC" way.....WHY????????? Call a spade a spade; others will respect that!!! Just my $.02...

Peak (& Sierra) Antifreeze Severs Ties with AHA

The good people at Old World Industries, makers of PEAK & Sierra Antifreeze, have announced they are severing thier ties and sponsorship of the American Humane Society (AHA), in response to a flood of complaints by angry sportsmen. AHA, an avid anti-hunting organization, has enjoyed a long relationship with Old World, which funneled money from consumer rebates on their antifreeze products (see SCI Action Alert 10/21/03A) until this point. Apparently Old World was not aware of the fact that AHA had strong objections to hunting and were actively involved in attempting to ban our traditional pasttime. After a tremendous flood of calls and messages by sportsmen, they received a quick education on the issue and it's importance to us.

Mr. Ed Powderly, Peak Product Manager, called us asking what his people could do to make this issue go away. The answer was simple - sever all ties with the AHA immediately. They have since provided us with this agreement in writing and are in the process of changing all of their packaging and literature regarding this rebate for the AHA. They have discontinued their relationship with AHA and will not continue to support their efforts.

We salute Mr. Powderly and his staff for taking quick action on this issue that is so important to us. A letter from Mr. Powderly is included below.

First off, I would like to thank all of you who have made sportsmen a force to be reckoned with. The network of activist sportsmen in this country has grown incredibly over the past year or so. Something like this would have been entirely unheard of a few short years ago - especially by hunters.

SALUTE YOURSELVES FOR A JOB WELL DONE!!!

Secondly, please drop a line to Peak Antifreeze thanking them for their immediate attention to our concerns. Mr. Powderly is himself a hunter, and he and his staff have been taking quite a pounding the past few days. A classy word of thanks is in order. You can contact Peak at: http://www.peakantifreeze.com/email.htm

Again, thanks for being an active "pro-hunter". Now get out in the woods and enjoy the weekend!!
