I am looking into getting a new handgun soon. I'm either going with a glock30 or the new springfield xd 1911. I just can't decide which one. I've shot a springfield .40 and .45 and loved both, all I have shot in a glock was a 9mm. The new xd looks like its pretty decked out for somebody wanting personal protect. Lots of good features. Anybody have a new xd? Buy the way both guns are .45.

You cant go wrong with either one. I have both and would bet my life on them. The Glock will hold up to wear better because of it's finish. The XD has a true single action trigger and feels better. Go to a gun shop and put one in each hand and you will see what I mean. As the glock's trigger is pulled it releases one of it's internal triggers thus making it feel like a double action. This may not be an issue for you but may help you with this hard decision. GET BOTH!

Unless there's something I'm missing, the Springfield XD and 1911 models are two different guns.
I just bought an XD subcompact in 9mm flavor about a month ago. Put a couple hundred rounds through it the next day at the range and loved it. Surprisingly accurate for a 3" barrel. Comfortable two-fingered grip with very manageable recoil. Mine also came with a larger hi-cap magazine with a grip extension. Feels okay with or without it. I actually prefer the smaller mags because the longer grip kind of defeats the purpose of buying a smaller handgun (concealibity).
I was wanting something more compact than the Witness (CZ 75 clone) and my "short list" was the CZ 2075 RAMI, the Springfield XD, a Kahr PM9, and a Glock 26.
If I had run across a CZ 2075 I probably would have bought it but I'm very happy with the XD purchase. Feelings toward Glocks tend to get pretty passionate in either direction. I'm kind of ambivalent about 'em. Didn't really care that much for the 26 I looked at. I do like the grip safety on the XD... I can holster it without worrying about whether I'm going to shoot myself in the leg.
Interesting read: XD9 torture test (http://springfield-armory.primediaoutdoors.com/SPstory11.html). 20,000 rounds, immersed in ice, dirt, mud, chemicals, and run over. Only cleaning was shaking the mud off. Not a single misfire.

I've put nearly 10,000 rounds through my XD9 now without a single failure. It's a workhorse. I installed a Don's Guide Rod at about 8,000 rounds (not because it needed it, I'd just been hearing lots of great things about 'em and thought it might be getting time to replace the spring anyway.) I plan to get another one or two when/if money permits.
Lots of good info on the XD (formerly the HS2000) here:

...The Glock will hold up to wear better because of it's finish...
This isn't the case anymore. All XD's for the past several months have been coming out with a melonite finish comparable (or identical, according to some) to the Glock "tennifer" finish.
If you buy a new one, you won't have to "sweat" the finish issue.. nyuck nyuck!
(If you compare the two finishes side by side, the old finish is a dull, flat black - the new melonite finish is glossy black like a Glock slide. ALL XDs in 45 ACP have the melonite finish.)

I believe its gonna be a xd. I am going in to the morning to look and compare the two though before I buy. I talked to a couple people and they love their xds better than their glock. I don't plan on buying one, but the way I am I'll be walking out with one if they have it in stock!!:D

I think you will really enjoy it. Just beware, you can burn up a lot of rounds fast through that 13 round clip:D

That's for sure. I have 5 mags for my XD9, four 15-rounders and one 16-round. I have a heck of a time trying to keep ammo around. Have to hide it from myself!
You'll love that XD.
