How many guys use a scope on their turkey gun and what brand do you use? I was thinking about getting a Simmons, Bushnell, or Nikon in 4x for my 870.

I have a scope on my turkey gun, it's an older than dirt Herters. 1-4 power magnification is plenty but what you want is lots of field of view. I have had Tasco and Simmons scopes but the Tasco had trouble handling the recoil, the rectical dropped.

Simmons Pro-Diamond.

When that gobbler's head is in the Diamond he is meat in the pan.

2 power..

The best ones are those with long eye relief.

Got a Simmons 2.5 with a circle in the crosshair, head in circle=bird in hand!!
Long eye relief is a necessity as said and I think I payed around 70.00 for the scope and the B Square mount together.

I use a red dot scope on my gun. I've got a post check out your turkey guns.

I used to use a Banner 1.5x4.5 power scope. But 12 stitches later I decided to switch to a red dot. Not NEARLY enough eye relief I found when shooting 3 1/2 inch mags.

Now use a Bushness Trophy 3 inch red dot. The kind with 4 differernt patterns. I really like the change.

My wife has a Simmons on her 870, and she's death with it. That scope has been in place for 10 seasons or better (it's a hand-me-down from her dad) and I don't think it's ever been readjusted. She's killed nearly 10 birds with it, and I've never seen her miss.

if you are used to scopes, go for it. If you are not a deer hunter or serious scope rifle shooter, then I think you would be a lot happier with the red dot. I am. Many reasons: among them, ability to pick upbird easily and then slightly shift head or eyes to find dot and place it without "waving" gun around in a scope, and the eye relief is a big factor, as stated earlier. 2 cts.

I've got scopes on every one of my rifles, so I figure it's the best way to go. I don't like the idea of batteries with the red dots, some of the places I hunt are pretty remote and a trip into town for new batteries would waste a lot of my hunting time.

Last year, my buddy killed a huge gobbler (11.75 beard, 1.5 inch spurs) in a field filled with yellow tops. My other buddy that was hunting with him was only a few steps away and couldn't kill the bird because he couldn't see him without a scope on his gun.

It seems most of you guys use variable power scopes instead of fixed, I might look into that.

Killed 2 toms last year with a red dot on my Browning Gold, wouldn't hunt without one now.

Simmons 2X work great! Multi is right about eye relief, it hurts like heck when you shoot out of position and get ring eye. The Simmons has plenty of relief.
