Look into Cane Creek Calls. Doug makes one of the best sound slates in the business. He also makes an awesome custom aluminum call that screams. There are lots of great custom callmakers right here in Ky. that you can choose from. Doug's are just some of the calls that I tried early on and still really love today. I'm sure skin_dog 1's and others like Boyd Smith, etc. are excellent as well, I've just never tried them personally.

I too love Cane Creek's Pro Slate like Greenhead does. Ron Clough of Close Calls makes a very nice custom slate. I also like Ol' Yeller by Knight and Hale. But my all-time favorite is Quaker Boy's Magic Touch slate. It's an inexpensive call and sounds very good when used in combination with a carbon striker.
Good luck in your search.

I love my Cane Creek glass! I'm thinking pretty hard about picking up a Cane Creek slate in Nashville Sunday. Tom

Ol Yeller, though I prefer a hickory striker.
Old Yellar is an easy to use slate, another is Lil' Deuce

Another vote for Ol' Yeller Sla-Tek by Knight & Hale.
Last year I came up with the combo of the OY and K & H's (I think??) new weather proof striker. It has a wooden shaft and an acrylic-type tip. Or the striker might have been an H.S. Heck I have so many I lose track. But always find myself coming back to the Yeller.
Be sure to get some type of conditioning stone. Sometimes you can buy sample strikers from dealers when they get tired of hearing customers harp on them all day. Usually they'll let you mix and match for as little as $5 bucks a pair.
I've bought some of my best ones that way.
