I work every other Saturday and Sunday in Owensboro and a retail store in the mall carrying washers and other heavy stuff out for people(won't give the name but you can guess). Anyway my manager never can figure out how to do the scheduel and always blames it on somebody else. He flies off the handle over little stupid stuff all the time. He knows I can only work every other weekend because I am down in BG at school. Last time I was in Owensboro was the 9th-11th. I picked up my scheduel on the 9th and it said I was only working on the 11th. So I showed up worked my shift and came back to BG. I called today to make sure he put me on the scheduel and he said no because I was fired almost 2 weeks ago for a "no show" He told me didn't show up Saturday and obviously knew about it because I worked on Sunday. I told him that I was only schedueled for Sunday and he said I was supposed to work Saturday too, I have proof I wasn't though. He said it was my problem to know my scheduel...I ended up telling him that if he was smart enough to do it right nobody would have a problem(everybody thinks he is a horrible manager) I don't want to work there again after being treated this way, but I had an interview here in BG that went well and the manager was going to call and get a reference. If I don't get this new job because of my old job screwing up like that, and blaming the situation on me is there anything I can do against my old job? I'm pretty mad because I have never been fired from a job. I take pride in that fact too! Atleast I get to go fishing this weekend now!

I'd explain the situation to the prospective employer. You can't rely on the dufus to explain it for you.

Yeah I called him immediatly after I found out. He said he appreciated the honesty and hadn't had a chance to talk to them yet. I told him I was going to figure out the situation this weekend and get something taken care of. I'm still just kinda worried because I need a job bad...I have only been working 5-10 hours every other week for about a month and it is killing me!

the store I used to manage was extremely seasonal, and, therefore, had to hire an entire new staff of 15 or so every spring. I put much more emphasis on the interview than I did past job references. Only if I got more than one bad referral, or the reason for past termination was extreme, did I place much importance on them. I always reasoned that there were two sides to every story...
I got fired from my first non-farm job as well by the way, still the one and only time. I caught the manager messing with the times on the register tape, she claimed it was to make the store look busier at night so the owners would keep the late hours, and it might have been, but who really knows... Anyway, she must have decided she couldn't take a chance on me telling the owners so she let me go.

Don't worry about that *. I was fired from a job in 1978 for about the same reasons. Now that * works for one of my subcontractors, get to tell him what to do. Don't hold a grudge, it will eat at you. What goes around comes around. Where was you at wing night a toot's? I thought you was going to be there, I was going to buy your meal. I'll give you a raincheck on the next time.

All he can tell your prospective employer is you were fired , and thats it, he can not by law get into details . And he can say you are not eligible for rehire , thats it !!

Get an explanation from your boss stating why you got fired. If he puts that you failed to work on tat day and you have proof you were not scheduled and you worked the next day, you can get his butt in a lot of trouble for wrongful termination.

On the record, when a prospective employer contacts a current or past employer all that can be said is whether or not you worked there and the dates of employment.
Off the record I would wager to say alot more than that gets said.

In fact, I'd guarantee it!:D
I wouldn't worry about it, as was said, it will just eat at you. I am assuming you are looking for part time work/hours. Most employers are knowing they are hiring temp people and are prepared to deal with high turnover rate.
Be willing to bet there will be no phone call.
In fact, I'd guarantee it!:D
Probaly does for sure. I get calls asking for referances. I refuse to give any info other than what is allowed. That is smart advice for anyone BTW. I have also told folks I would be happy to give them a personal recommendation. I have had to fire people and have given them help through personal recommendations.

I'm not to worried about it, just kinda got to me about why he said he fired me. I do have proof that shows he is wrong. It was only part time, and thats all I am needing. I can't work too much with some of the classes I'm going to be taking in the future. I already tried 60 hrs of work and full time college...it didnt work too well. Well, guess some fishing is the right thing to do this weekend...:D
Preditor, I was going to go to wing night but that week ended up being a bad time, after I found out that I had tests in ALL my classes and had to study. I am going to do everything I can to make it to the next one. I was really wanting to go and hated to miss it.
