Anyone know of a gunsmith who is good with barrel work on a 12 gauge? I am thinking about getting my forcing cone lengthened etc. THANKS:rolleyes:
"mwezell" on this forum may be able to do that. He is an excellent gunsmith. Located in between Russellville and BG.

Keene's Depot in Bardstown is where I had mine done. It makes an extreme difference!

Jim Watson "The Gun Doctor" in Lone Oak, near Paducah, is very good.

Mwezell,
Can you install a standard Remington tube choke in a Remington Model 870 older plain barrel??
Enough barrel wall thickness?

Mwezell,

i can't imagine your wall thickiness being any less than what my nova tactical barrel is. in my case a thinwall choke would have to be used and if it comes to it i'm sure you'd have that option too if the other chokes dont work. the wall thickness on my barrel is only ~.06". if the fellas on the board here don't peform this service, i know of someone that will, is reasonable priced and is suppose to do quality work. folks at shotgunworld recommended him to me.
but if possible i'd like to keep it in the state.

Most can be done but will just have to measure to be certain. If not there are always the thinwall chokes. Haven't seen an old remmy that I can remember that I could not put tubes in though.
