Howdy I live for the Elk hunt, and take in as much info on the topic of Elk that I can. I look forward to hearing how the Herd in Kentucky are doing and meeting the rest of you.

From an old man who is a year younger than your dad, but got the bug late in life, the elk are going gangbusters in Kentucky. I live 400 miles from the elk grounds(in West Tennessee), but was privileged to draw a cow tag this past season. From my Colorado experience, they are far easier to hunt in Kentucky. However, after a few more seasons of being shot at, I'm sure that will equal out. However, they are still elk and they are still great! And, contrary to what my comments may seem to imply, they are still wild! The last bull that I killed in Colorado was in 2003, and we hunted at 11,600 ft. But, we drove there in a jeep cherokee, and we "camped" every night in cabins down on the highway. So our elk camps are apparently a lot different than yours. We hunt around Creede in unit 76, when we can get drawn. And, since I have used up my Kentucky draw luck, I may try to cow hunt this year in your state, as I have enough points to insure me of a tag in 76. And, I'm certainly going to apply again in Kentucky for as long as I am still vertical. A great experience! IMO Kentucky is, and will continue to be the poster child for elk restoration.
