Elk Viewing Opportunities

I would like to take my camera and watch / photograph Elk but, I do not know where to begin. I would prefer to DIY but an organized tour may be something to consider as well. Anybody have any suggestions?

I know that they have tours at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park at Prestonburg because I saw them advertised in the lodge when I was there in December. However, I cannot tell you the dates(ongoing?). I suggest that you call the lodge and inquire if interested. Also, I seem to remember reading something about tours at Buckhorn State Park, but I don't know any details.

Give me a call and I can hook you up. I saw 6 bulls today off of highway 66 along the Redbird River. You can go to the Begley WMA and see a lot of elk. You can go to the community of Rowdy near Hazard and see elk (too many in people's yards). You can also go up on the Laurel Fork mine just out of Rowdy and see elk.
