I'm not sure I really get this... I'm obviously not a real big fan of PETA but I don't see this as being what it is made out to be...I guess my question is this- Does PETA actually go to animal shelters and protest euthanasia?? IMO, since euthanasia is the only LOGICAL and humane way to treat the pet overpopulation problem caused by sloppy pet owners, why would anyone second guess the act? The number of stray and abandon animals is so great that there is no other possible way, no matter who does it.

Quote from PETA: "We do not run a traditional shelter. In fact, we refer every healthy, cute, young animal we can to shelters."

In 2003 PETA reported transferring exactly one animal to another shelter. In 2002 PETA transferred just two animals. Click here to see the documents PETA filed with the state of Virginia (http://www.petakillsanimals.com/downloads/PetaKillsAnimals.pdf). Since 1998, PETA has transferred a total of 130 animals to other shelters, and 21 of them were chickens. By comparison, it killed over 10,000 animals.

"[M]ost of the animals we receive are broken beings for whom euthanasia is, without a doubt, the most humane option."

PETA kills 85 percent of the animals it takes in, and finds adoptive homes for just 14 percent. By contrast, the Norfolk SPCA, whose shelter is located less than 4 miles from PETA's headquarters, found adoptive homes for 73 percent of its animals in 2003 (http://www.petakillsanimals.com/pressRelease_detail.cfm?id=105). It’s rather hard to believe that the animals entrusted to PETA are any more likely to be “broken beings.”

Euthenaisa is sometimes the only option for some animals, but given the facts around the process that PETA goes by "rescuing" and euthenising animals, it seems that they are more inclined to kill animals then save them. Totally inconsistent and hypocritical to thier own professed agenda.
