As some of you know, I am returning to college to finish my degree. I chose a class this semester that I may wish I never signed up for. It is a family life class that I took just to fill a spot in my roster. When I got to class, the teacher was telling us about her different style of teaching. There are no tests, no homework, and no text book. Our grade is based only upon class participation and discussion. She said if you show up and give your input, you will get an "A". I thought this was great because I am quite vocal in my class discussions. As she was going around the room, asking us our name, and hobbies, I was thinking I was glad I took this class. When she came to me, my attitude soon changed. I told her my name, and she asked what I like to do in my spare time. I said "I like to hunt and fish". (of course). The smile left her face and all she was left with was a frown and a furrowed brow. She said "Oh, I am going to have fun with you this semester." She then proceeded to tell me what she was all about. She did not hold back, and firmly told me she was a "Feminist, Vegetarian, Animal Rights Activist!". All the hopes of this being a smart choice of a class left my body. I am in trouble. I value my hunting very much, and I don't like people talking bad about it. I can see she and I getting into some heated debates over this subject, and I don't think I have the strength to just keep my mouth shut in order to get an "A". Like I said, there is ALWAYS a catch.

You are screwed. I took a class and the teacher was from Iran. My views and his were quite different. He was impossible. Not trying to destroy your thread. All he would talk about was how great it was over there. Another guy who served in Iraq had different views then the teacher also. It seems every class we had a debate. He constantly trashed the U.S. and Bush and I asked him why he was here then. He did not like that too well. I failed the class. Took it again next quarter semester and got an A. The next teacher I had was from Lebanon. He was cool as can be. We all had different views but he was real good about it. He pushed us to question one another. That is the great thing about our country. You can have different beliefs and not be punished for it. I felt bad for him when Israel and Lebanon were at war. He still had family over there. Anyway college teachers do hold grudges and the teacher you get makes the class good or bad.

Matt, play her game. Regurgitate her company line. Get the A from her...it's getting even if you think about it just right. Imagine...hoodwinking one of THEM into getting them do do what you want.

You should also learn as much as she can teach. It always pays to know what the enemy is thinking.

Remember, after taking her class, you will still be Matt and she'll still be, well, her. Your goal is the grade and graduation. Don't let her distract you from the goal.

Ask her to idenify one wild animal that does not participate in nature as either predator or prey. then ask her the same of insects. Then tell her that you participate in nature as all were intended too.

Tell her all who walk this earth effect their biosphere. every time she wipes her butt with toilet paper she has killed an animal. every time a field is plowed to plant her vegis an animal has died.

I would have a hard time sitting through a class like that for a semester...But if she doesn't hold grudges and accepts different peoples wiews then ok....But if not, you sould be up a creek with out your trolling motor...

I just may be of some help in this matter, since both myself and my wife have had the exact same thing a few times.....

Do NOT forsake your values or opinions (she wants you to do that as a concern for the grade she will view this as weakness on your part and power on hers....not what you want, and you won't get an "A" either)

This IS the "hard part", (trust me I know) :) YOU don't have to prove anything to her, and you probably can't, don't try to.....state YOUR opinion as such, don't falter , but don't try to "sell" her on it either, she will soon respect your (though to her stupid) opinion IF you can manage to do that ;)

You actually have a good chance here, when the others in your class see what a "stand up guy" you are, and you stand by your beliefs, BUT don't try to "force" them upon anyone else.......some will begin to see some of your points (which she won't like, but must accept, )

Could be an opportunity. Keep an open mind, listen to her side and choose your battles carefully. Think positive. It's always possible that she has developed a negative view of hunters as a result of some clutz. Remember the old addage "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"

I'd bite. When she came around the room she was waiting for someone like you to say what you did so she could spill out her line. I'd stand my ground and watch my grades and if she was going against you for your views I'd go a little higher than her and put her on the chopping block.

You never know how many peoples idea of hunters and fishermen you might change if you stay under control and make some good points. There are potential politicians and law makers in your class!!

Also, remember that this is just like a big hunt. You are on her ground and you know her pattern (the "Im going to have fun with you" comment). Be prepared with how you are going to make your points and defend your views.

Personally, I'd take a duck call and some decoys. It's the best way to catch a quack!! HA!!

Good luck is all I can say. I have been there and done that on a regular basis. Hippies (that's what you are dealing with) ignore all aspects of reason. They also claim to be open minded but are infact are some of the closed "mindest" people you will ever meet. Have fun, I don't envy you one bit.

Yep. Probably best to try and keep your composure (that may be asking a lot, I know). Hate to put anything on one's shoulders but, your actions and response are in a position to, kind of, speak for what everyone of us on this site loves and cherishes. "Choose your words wisely....Grasshopper".

I think it is important that you document her "Participation is an A" statement. Get it in writing, an email, syllabus, or something. Then let the chips fall where they may. If she gives you a crappy grade, you've got all you need to go before the Dean and get her slapped around.

Is she also a Lesbian?? I had an issue with one of my teachers many years ago during a final exam? I had just taken a 2 hour genetics final and them had her final. When we went in the room and took her seats, she had the exam laying on our desks. She proceed to light up a cigarette. Well I just reached in my back pocket and took out my pouch of "Levi Garrett" and put me in a chew. She immediately frowned and stated real loudly my name. Do you think you are going to chew during this final. I said are you going to smoke during this final!! She grinned and said "Point well taken." I somehow got an A.:eek:

She wants to intimidate you and make you feel quilty......Take her a couple dozen pictures of road killed animals and tell her you couldnt help but think about her when you saw these poor creatures and thought she might want to post them on the animal rights website she belongs too.....Tell her that she has really made you think about hunting and you are more confident than ever that by humanely managing the resources of the state you are more determined than ever to do your part so that no animal need end up splattered all over the roadside! :D

I was about to ask you if it was at o.c.c. If so you would be completly screwed. I've had a problem with a teacher not liking me for a couple things I had proved him wrong on....and I was in no way trying to make him look stupid or start anything...I ended up getting a d in the class for no reason at all...I kept every paper and test in the class and should have ended up with a "b" in the class. I took it to the higher powers and they did absolutly nothing. Thats why I am at western now. I ended up taking 83 hours at o.c.c. and all were supposed to go towards my degree...I get here this semester...20 hours actually go to my degree!!!!!:mad: :mad: :mad: You might get lucky if it is the wku extended...but be carefull!! Get the grade and be done with it.

If you ever try to throw FACTS at her she will turn on you as a person and single you out because of your "falsehoods" and will bait you every chance she gets.

As for going higher up, I'll ask you this. How long has she taught there?? The longer the higher up she goes and that means she does not have to follow the rules. The longer she's taught there the more people have tried to go over her head and guess who won??? It is HER class and there is NO books, NO homework, etc. She wins no mater what. So what can you use to prove anything?

You could wear your "I love Hillary" botton and you old "Kerry of President" and win her heart and become the teachers pet if you could stand that.;)
