I find it depressing that a State such as Idaho that has millions of acres of public land and a healthy elk herd would even allow somthing like this.

Sorry, I don't see the problem. If you don't want to "hunt" high fence or such, then don't. Is it hunting? No. But to each his own I suppose.

I'm with you. As long as the elk are contained and kept from the native herds, I have no problem with anyone with deep enough pockets, and the desire to shoot tame animals for their ego's sake. The actual killing of the tame animal doesn't bother me. After all, it's done in stockyards millions of times each day. I do wonder, however, about what pleasure the shooter gets? The feeling of accomplishment has to be totally lacking.

I don't have a problem with slaughtering livestock either. What I have a problem with is folks putting it off as hunting. Call it what it is - livestock at slaughter!

"You have to hunt them down. You have to sneak up on them. It's traditional hunting," Martone said. "If you're not physically fit, you're going to have a hard time at it."
what a joke this comment is from this high-fence "hunter". Laughable for it to be considered anything more than shooting a tame cow like Skinner said.

Let me start off by saying that i have never been on one of these "hunts" and have no desire. If i spent the money to go to one of these places i would just assume go to public land...sure i wouldn't be guaranteed a monster, or any elk for that matter. But i know that i would have much more satisfaction in knowing that i wasnt pursuing livestock (which is exactly what they are).

I wouldn't be so quick to beat Idaho up over this. I just heard that a preserve in Central Kentucky received their permits to host a high fence elk hunt. When asked about the size of the elk, I was told they would ship in whatever size the shooter wanted. The bigger the bull, the more the cost.
I personally wouldn't be caught dead on a slaughter hunt but I do know that they are booking up with NRs fairly fast.
