Does anyone know of any campgrounds where the sites back up to water--a large lake or fishing stream? If I remember correctly, one of the campgrounds on Laurel lake are like that. I'm looking for some others, maybe closer to L'ville.

Pulaski county park on lake cumberland backs up to the water or at least it used to before they started sucking all the water out of it. Depending on when you are planning on going it should have some water there. It doesn't right now. You know its bad when you are putting in beside kayaks and canoes. In the spring and summer its a beautiful place with easy access. Gets kind of rowdy around the holiday weekends though.

Yeah I saw that Pulaski Campground last spring.....Its really nice....I would check with the corp to see where lake levels are though....Its my understanding that Cumberland may be way down for awhile!

The tail waters at Rough River has a campground with the river to fish in....
Starve Hollow in Indiana has some great bluegill and shell cracker fishing with campsites right on the lake....

All of the lakes have water campgrounds. I know that Nolin has several, so does Rough R. I'm fairly sure you can reserve the good spots on the web at each site.

Moutidier at Nolin has plenty, so does Briar Creek, and Wax and Dog Creek.
You can sleep with both feet in the water if you want?

Almost every major impoundment in Kentucky has waterfront campgrounds, many Corp of Engineer campgrounds do and you can reserve them ahead of time online (actually you can reserve Ky state Parks now also),here are links to both

There are many places to camp by the water side on Lake Cumberland in Pulaski county and near Somerset, Ky. There is Fishing Creek Recreation Area, Pulaski County Park, and also a place I like to camp where it is completely primative, no electric, water, facilities of any kind in down on the creek banks of fishing creek at the Lake Cumberland WMA. This is a great area for fishing and hunting campers. Also one that comes to mind is Bee Rock Camping Area where there is water, toilets but no electric and it sets right on the banks of the Rockcastle river and it is located right on hwy 192 at the Pulaski and Laurel county lines.

bee rock is a good fishing hole it has boat ramp on the otherside of river.
I've camped a lot at the Obey River Campground in Tennessee at Dale Hollow Lake. Nice sized lots with some good sites with water access.

You may be thinking of Laurel River Lake that is surrounded by DBNF. They have several "boat in" camp areas.

Holly Bay Campground at Laurel Lake is on the water one point over from the Holly Bay Marina. Several good sites and marina is just right there. Great spot! Laurel Lake is one of the most pristine looking lakes around with little if any shoreline development save for marinas and campgrounds.

My house is within 200 yards of Laurel Lake. The Grove campground and Holly Bay campground both have sites near the water. There are also some boat in sites on Laurel. Energy Lake campground at LBL has sites that boarder Energy Lake. Great campground!! If you're interested in going to Dale Hollow, we have camped at Lillydale Campground. It is in Tennessee, but the campground is located right on the lake and is beautiful!!

Man, how did you luck out like that! If I lived only 200yds from Laurel Lake, I wouldn't need much of a house because I wouldn't be spending much time in it.
When I was in college, I spent a lot of time on the Corbin side. And later when we lived in London, we got to spend a lot of time on the London side. And I thought that's where I remembered some campgrounds near the water.

It's pretty nice being this close to the lake, but like anything else, you always want to be somewhere else besides at home on campouts. Me and the family normally go to Green River Lake or LBL to do our camping, which is quite often during the summer and deer season. But I do have to say that it is awfully nice to be able to be on the boat ramp in 5 minutes if I decide to go out and bust a few smallmouth. :D

I don't quite remember on how the campsites are lined up, but check out taylorsville lake. that's real close to louisville.

Try Energy Lake Campground at LBL. Secluded and scenic. I always camp there with a tent, but they do have hookups I believe near the water. Also have a shower house.

You can camp right below the dam at Barren River Lake. Several of the campsites back up to the river. Good fishing down there in the spring.

Ok I'm about to give it up -- the best on the water site I've found (already booked it for the dates I want it this year, so I guess I'm safe!).
Cave Run Lake -- Zilpo Camp Groud -- Sites H21 and H22. Right on the water, moore the boat right by the sites.

big300mag, are these secluded campsites? i don't care too much for the parking lot campgrounds, need plenty of space and privacy. thanks all for the reccomended campgrounds. i've been waiting to hear from folks, rather than the sketchy info you get on their sites. anybody got any photos?

If you don't mind the drive the corp of engineer campground below the dam at Buckhorn Lake sets right on the tailwater/ Ky River and has good fishing,a nice clean campground with good sites, and is never crowded (exception might be on a holiday weekend like Memorial).Plus if you like hiking there's a good chance at seeing Elk or a Black Bear.

There are a few primitive spots scattered around Laurel Lake. If you would like, send me a private message or e-mail and I would be happy to give you some pointers and directions to some. The only problem about the primitive sites is that they don't have the conveniences of the other campgrounds. But if you like to rough it, you will have all the privacy you could want.

Yatesville Lake in Louisa has some pretty nice ones. They all have level spots for tents, a picnic table and a grill. There are also bathrooms (sink and toilet) and running water spread through out. We go there with my wife's dad in the summer. I like it there, never over-crowded.
