Just done a virus scan on the computer because it had been acting up. I had over 700 files infected with the PE NIMDA.A virus - not good! I THINK I've finally got it cleaned up. This virus comes imbedded in an email and can infect your computer just by looking at the email - it doesn't require opening an attachment. It generally comes with no subject line and no body - so be on the lookout.

Raktrakr,

Thats the bad part - you don't have to open anything. I was just deleting junk male. You have to highlight a message to delete it(if you are using Outlook Express), which opens the message and releases the virus.

I know a few people that has had problems like that with outlook express. You have to scroll down to it and hit the delete button before the envelope icon opens.

Brian, someone from Xoutdoors sent me an e-mail and I did not even open it because I dont even know anyone at Xoutdoors. Anyway , after that I have had a crap load of viruses and a worm.

Pat Willis also said that he has had a huge bunch of viruses coming from some outdoor sites.

You guys better keep an eye out.

It pays to have anti-virus protection running and updated all the time. I recieved 2 e-mails from Xoutdoor while I was gone, one contained a virus. My virus protection program protected my computer. I would not have opened them anyway because I don't know anybody at Xoutdoors.

Darton: You should be able to delay the opening of the E-mail. I have Outlook Express and have mine set for a 5 minute delay. Then I have to double click it to open them. That way I can delete without having to open the e-mail.

Yeah, Raktrakr, it was a PE NIMDA.A and PE NIMBA.A-Z virus. It doesn't seem to have damaged anything on the computer, but it was a pain getting rid of. It infected over 700 files - some could be cleaned, and some had to be deleted. Windows 2000 stopped it from infecting any of the main system files. I have no idea whose email did it. I have a hotmail account that gets tons of junk mail, and I guess I was going through and deleting those when I contracted it. I will definitely be picking up McAffee's Internet Security software.

The Nimbda worm thing showed up on mine as well. I think rak is right in that this is a plot of the anti's. I'm still getting returned E-mail for addresses I've never even heard of. Keep us all posted!!.....Rick
