Cow hunt countdown!!!

7days and a wakeup to go,I know it doesn't stir up as much excitement as the bull season but for those of us with a cow tag it will do just fine!! As some of you know I have already tried my hand at bowhunting and had a very"eventful" trip which I may share later. But this time it's 7 mag time!! Cant wait ,so all you other cow hunters sign in and let me know how you feel.

Got my trip all planned out. I guess myself and 7 other lucky tag recipients are going to hunt the Ivy Creek Hunting Preserve. Spoke to a fish and game rep today and he said there are a lot of elk there scattered in several large herds. Not sure how they are going to orchestrate 8 of us hunting at the same time or how big the preserve is, but it sounds like the animals are there. The rep told me there would be people there to help us out. Prepping the animals for vehicles but not sure if they will be the "undertakers" or not. Sure does sound like they were a helpful bunch during the bull hunt. Hope I get a chance to meet them. Anyways, heading to Prestonsburg Friday evening for hopefully an exciting Saturday. By the way does anyone have a lead on hotels in Prestonsburg? Need to try and find a room for the night if I can. Cheers

For Prestonsburg, I stayed at the Super 8 (606) 886-3355 which was clean enough, hot shower, etc., right beside McDonalds. I also spent one night at the Best Western (606) 889-8379 which was fine and I think Raven Over Easy stayed at the Comfort Suites (606) 886-2555.

Yep, gona be at it again! 2nd weekend though. Wish I could get up there with Jeff's group but just too dang busy. Gona have to get the gun off the shelf and get the dust off of it. I've been goin on a pretty good streak of bowkills. Hopefully that streak will end in about 14 days and counting! Cant wait!

Staying at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park(number on their website) because of somebody's recommendation, which is all that we had to go on, never having been East of I-75. I believe that Ivy Creek is 1500 acres, according to the letter sent to me(us) by Ky Game & Fish. I called also re:the Ivy Creek opportunity, but I was not among the first 8, and I can't afford to drive 425miles and have to deal with the uncertainty of when I might get to hunt, so I made other arrangements where I will be able to hunt at dawn on Saturday. And, borrowing from Oneal Williams on the Outdoor Channel, "I'm ready...are you?"
