I'm looking for a little help! Moved to kentucky in '93 from wisconsin and used to walleye & musky fish all the time. What are the best walleye lakes close to Louisville and is live bait trolling the best presentation? I've already fished Cave Run with a guide for musky without any success. Are there any musky waters closer to Louisville? I'm not looking for your honey holes, just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanx for your help!

Green River Lake would probably be your best bet for both. It has excellent Muskie fishing and pretty good walleye fishing. Your best bet for walleye is near the dam on the lake and on deep stump beds during the summer. Live bait trolling and some deep running crankbaits work for walleye.

.300Savage & Raktrakr-
Thanx for your help. I live just NE of Louisville in Oldham Co. Really close to the Gene Snyder X-way. Which is the best ramp to use? Are there any weeds in the lake or do you fish tree tops like at Cave Run?

You need to head to Lake Cumberland. Plenty of walleye for those who know how to catch them(and that's NOT me) Also those stripers will make you forget all about the "fish of 10,000 casts" Its just about ready to turn-on down there.

actually i havent fished from a boat in this lake for about 6 or 7 yrs. i caught walleye from a boat but the musky i caught from the bank. you take I65 south to e-town and take exit 91 (hodgenville/lincoln pkwy). as soon as you leave I65, stay to the left til you get to the over-pass, then take the right,it will make a big circle, now youll be on hwy 61(lincoln pkwy), stay on this rd til you come to a T- intersection then take the right, this is hwy 210 from here you just follow the signs to green river lake state park

as far as weeds and tree tops, those are mostly in the back reaches of the lake

I've caught most of my musky from the dam back up to robinson creek. Not much grass to fish but plenty of blowdowns for Ol' Sabertooth to lurk around! I've caught some walleye past the dam, down by the site 1 boat ramp.
Hope this helps!
Good Fishin
