Censorship in America....Pro...or ...Con.?? And is it a good thing if it prevents bad things from happening???.....Amie.....:p :p :p .....
I'm against it. I think it's the parents job to protect kids from extremely obscene material (if they choose)- not the govt.. An adult can take care of themselves.
It's nearly impossible to offend me so it's hard for me to really understand censorship in most cases. I think by censoring things that kids might see you can create a sort of mystique that will actully make kids seek out things. IMO, the "parental advisory- explicit lyrics" actually helped to sell millions of albums to young kids.

I'm sorry I was meaning adults mostly, but children I agree with you on what you said....If you tell them NO NO NO, they are going to be even more drawn to it.....
In that case I think adults can judge for themselves what they find appropriate. We are able to put a book down, turn off the music, change the channel, or look away from a picture if we feel the need. Personally I think the govt already bends over backwards to please the minority in too many instances.

What kind of censorship are you talking about? Government, or otherwise?
If I pick up a Playboy magazine or tune in to the Playboy cable channel, then I fully expect to see naked chicks. If I pick up the daily newspaper, or tune the TV to CBS, then I fully expect to not see naked chicks. It would be inappropriate if I did.
If I print my own newspaper in my basement, I have the right to print darn near anything I want, whether it be Bible studies or porn. If you, the public, write letters to the editor, then I have the right to print or not print your submissions as I see fit, because it is my publication and I make the decisions. That's not censorship; it's editorship. If I'm printing porn and you want Bible lessons, then fire up your press and print some Bible lessons of your own.
That's how this bulletin board works. Uncle Lee's reserves the right to delete any posting as Uncle Lee and his assigned agents see fit, because he paid to put this board together, it's his, and he makes the decisions. Sometimes posts have to be deleted just to keep the peace.

Hey Trust, I saw some of that yesterday!:D
Censorship- Yes, we can all have our own opinions pro/con.Truely though, we all have to abide by the rule of law.
Generally liberals want less censorship, conservatives want more, but what do I know? Ask most on this site and I know next to nothing......to nothing!:D Hmm, there may even be a few that would like to censor me!:D
Jokin' guys, always jokin'!

I have no knowledge, and deny ever having knowledge, expressed or implied!
I didn't do it, you can't prove it, and besides, nobody was around to see me when I did it!:D

I'm all for preventing bad things from happening, but whats bad to me might not be to someone else. Its kind of a realitive term depending on a persons morals, virtues, and beliefs. I believe censorship to an extent is a good thing. There are some things I believe should not be out in the open for all to be exposed to. These type of things are readily accessible to the ones that seek them without subjecting the whole population to them in everyday life. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions!

IMO It's good if you like others making decisions for you, it's bad if you believe in freedom
One man's vulgarity is another man's lyric.
