I just got a fireplace insert. I'm hoping to offset the high cost of heating the ole homestead. The insert is one of those catalytic stoves and it can heat up to 2000 sq ft. Hopefully it works as well as it says it does and I don't burn the house down using it.

You will love it and it will reduce your heating bill. Try to burn only seasoned wood to reduce cresote buildup in your chimney.

Crocket,

What brand did you end up using? Why did you choose it? My wife and I are wanting to get an insert as well.

Thanks

I would pay somebody to take mine out of my home, but it might not be as nice as yours.

It is an Appalachian Trailmaster 4N1-XL.
We bought that one because the price was reasonable and also its square footage rating was plenty addequate for the size of our house.

I had my first fire in it last night. It doesn't burn large fires full of flames etc. It is more of a slow burner. Around 5:30 PM I put in 5 logs that were around the size of my wrist in circumference and around 15 inches in length. It had my home heated up to 71 degrees until 2:30 AM. This morning at 6:30 AM the stove was still warm but not hot to the touch.
