Got my first archery turkey Sunday morning!
Exciting stuff. Got her around 8am. I heard them fly down around 7:15am and was hoping they might head my direction. Finally heard them coming and saw them feeding across the hillside in front of me. I made about 4 or 5 clucks and they turned to down the hill to the bench my stand is on. I drew back and waited for the first one in range. One shot through the neck and the others barely even flinched. It was quite a while before the rest actually moved off. There were probably 15 others with her.

congrats!
i have not been able to really buckle down and hunt yet.
my son has a badly broken elbow and i have been having to help him hunt rather than hunt myself.
we have been seeing turkeys but none have offered a shot.
is all worth it though at least we are in the woods.

Congrats fellars, good shootin'.[8D][^]
There is a whole lot more turkey shot at and missed, than there is shot at and killed.[;)]

I have reports from three KBA members that have taken turkey with a bow this month. More to follow, I'm sure.

I am starting this week. I saw (6) gobblers from the treestand Friday night. All longbeards except one! I wished I was in my ground blind.
Every day bowhunting is a gift from God!

Dang those things can be elusive. Got whooped by a couple gobblers last night, as did my hunting buddy! Nice birds too.

Went hunting in Henderson County over the weekend. My son took a nice gobbler with the bow. This is his SECOND ONE & I have yet to get one. He got a hen about three years ago. I hunt for them-- he gets them [:(][:(!]

Ralph, you too will be black-balled by many a people.
There is a growing movement to NOT KILL tress!!![:D][:D]

Sky will be the first to tell you that willful intent has to be there. I had no intentions whatsoever of killing that tree. Matter-of-fact, it may pull through:) Let's wait a year or so & see... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!

I think the court will take Judicial Notice that the trees may be in more trouble than the game.

I hope this was on private land, Ralph. Only items that "..do not injure trees may be used..". Depending on interpretation of the law, you and your bow may not qualify.
Seriously, it's fairly impressive that you've even drawn back on them two different times!

Thank you BOTH for those kind & encouraging [}:)] words! I did find out one important thing today. I was getting ready to go gunning for Turkeys tomorrow. I happened to notice that the season doesn't open until SATURDAY & goes til NEXT Wednesday. I had it opening THIS Wed. & ending Sunday. What a screw-up that would have been[:(] So, I'm back to the bow[8D]

Very weak defense. It's been a few years since I've bowhunted, but them trees ain't to hard to get a draw on![:o)]
Ralph, just a hacking on you a little. Yes, any time a hunter even releases an arrow at a turkey, he's done something. Hope you nail one this week.

NEVER KILLED A TREE WITH A BOW HUNTING FOR TURKEY, BUT HAVE KILLED ONE OR TWO HUNTING DEER AND TARGET SHOOTING. THE GUY THAT PLANTED THOSE TREES JUST HAD TO PLANT THEM IN THOSE CERTAIN SPOTS DIDNT HE?
THE MAIN THING A GREAT HUNTER TAKES TO THE WOODS, IS ETHICS

I carry a full quiver of arrows while deer hunting, but at least one of them will be backed with a Zwickey (sp.). The Zwickey is put on the shaft of the arrow before you thread the broadhead into the insert. The Zwickey prevents the arrow from passing through the bird. Birds typically don't leave much of a blood trail and have a h*ll of a time flying with an arrow still in them.
Turkeys have EXCELLENT eyesight, and it has been my experience that they see above them better than in front of them. This makes hunting them from tree stands more difficult, especially when all the leaves have fallen.

I shot a hen (first turkey) with my bow at Clay WMA in September. Ralph, you know I've killed many a tree hunting for deer with my bow. Once, ol Ralph came walkin up to me at West KY WMA and said, "Did ya see any" and I pointed to a sappling with my arrow sticking out of it. He sometimes calls me "old heartwood". Well Ralph, you know that the more you shoot the odds are in your favor sooner or later! Congrats to Josh!! Hope he got a picture of it.
This turkey hunting with a bow is fun even when you miss. Of course Ralph's shooting those expensive arrows! I got mine cheap from ol KyHeadhunter and they have been real lucky for me this year.

Thank you! cousin Rick, & Chris & CrossHair for those words of encouragement. I was going to take a shotgun after them this weekend but---with all of your wonderful words for me I think I will stay with the bow[:D] That way, if I see a big deer I will still have the option[}:)]I can gun a turkey after work on Monday[^] Now, does BowCrazy have anything else to say? I can tell you guys a couple of good spots at H-H or Green River that he told me about[}:)] He doesn't hunt now cause he lost his arrows & his wife won't let him buy any more[:o)] At least my son can still shoot another bird with his bow[;)][:(]

Well, Ralph went out with his shotgun and got a nice hen over the weekend. Kudos to Ralph! Why? Not only did he hunt, was successful in taking a turkey, but he also had some nice gobblers within 30 yards, but didn't shoot because he did the ethical thing and restrained himself because the birds were just across the fence where he did not have permission to hunt. Now that's a good hunter folks.
