I wish every car that goes thump-thump-thump with the windows down would short out and burn. If I wanted to hear that crap, I'd install it in my own car, or my house, or at my workplace. As it is, they all think I want to hear it, and roll their windows down and drive real slow down the street, for my auditory benefit, I guess.

I'd like to shovel fresh green horse manure through their open windows as they drive by. Since my dog loves it, I assume they do too.

The funny part is that most of the guys who have a stereo worth listening to in their car, you'll never hear it. Most of the "thumpers" are guys with fairly cheap systems who just try to make it as loud as possible. The hardcore guys don't want you to know what's in their car, unless they own a car audio shop.

I usually pop in my copy of the Gourds.....Gin and Juice and turn up my volume to ear piercing levels and just smile as I ride next to them! :D

The dumb part is that they're making it incomprehensible on purpose. Basically it's the distortion that makes it hard to understand and ear piercing loud, they are cranking it up into the distortion range for no other reason than to make other people hear it. It would actually sound like crap in the car.

Maybe that didn't make any sense. Ok, say for example you have a car that can put out 130 decibels but it's distorted and maxed out and another that can put out 142 decibels but is clean. 12 decibels doesn't sound like much, but, normally the human ear will consider 6 decibels worth of change to be twice as loud, so 12 decibels is ALOT. However, when playing actual music, the 130 decibel car would appear to be louder due to the distortion, it's the distortion that would make it ear-piercing and unpleasant.

I've been in cars that were just amazingly loud and it didn't hurt my ears. The guys you hear booming typically don't own a car like this. I'll admit, I had my fair share of booming, when I was 16, but I ended up being friends with an installer and he showed me the light. I ended up doing very well in several competitions even though I had a shoestring budget. I even had a car of mine end up in Car Audio and Electronics magazine.

Anyway, I know the high schoolers and gangsta wannabees are aggravating, but if you ever hear a really nice system that is probably much louder than the systems of these kids, it's just absolutely amazing, but those guys aren't usually the ones you hear at the stoplight.

I guess the "loudest" vehicle I've ever been in had SIXTEEN 15" subs in it. The windshield would literally flex about 2", it looked like it could shatter at any time. The feeling you get in your guts, holy crap, I can't even describe it, its so intense.

But don't get me wrong, it aggravates me just as much. I live across the road from a parking lot where high school kids sometimes hang out in the mornings and EVERY YEAR when school starts I have to go tell them to knock off the booming because it wakes me up because my walls are rattling. Harleys tick me off worse though, there's no reason for some of them to be that loud. It really ticks me off when they wake up my kids.
