View Full Version : Bernheim Forest Hunt

Was wondering if any of you all get to hunt Bernheim Forest? Mu uncle gets a couple spots, but I have not done too well there in the past. LOTS of woods, revenes, etc. What should I key on? I know alot of people hunt "shelves" out there, as the deer travel these for obvious reasons. Not sure what spot we have but I'll find out if anyone knows anything about it.

I don't know much about the hunting out there but there are a ton of deer. I think the shelf advice is good and that's what I like to hunt wherever I am. If you can find a shelf or old logging road that leads to a saddle or runs the edge of a bowl, you're probably looking at a good spot.

Unless you are going as a guest of an employee, you won't be going.I hunted there in 2001.Each employee that takes part is given a certain area and is allowed so many guests and so many alternates. There are plenty of deer there, but I was not impressed with the size of the bucks I saw.

I have hunted out there the last 10 years or so. There aren't as many deer there as everyone thinks. I see twice as many deer at Taylorsville WMA. I have hunted in 7 different areas and might be able to give you a few tips about the area you got.

Was you out there last weekend for the meeting and scouting?

I can explain to you where we hunt, but not sure of the actual number....Anyway, we get off at the Bernheim exit and head towards the state park (hwy 42?), then maybe 2 miles down the road there is a gate on the right. Go through gate, drive to end of road where the sign in box is, then take a left. Follow that road back a good ways and there is a small field on the right with a gravel road right before it (which is the start of out spot). You follow the main gravel road back about 1.5 miles or so and everything on the right we can hunt. Not sure if you know where I am talking about, but if so let me know! I'll try to find out the tract number today. BTW nice bucks! All from Bernheim?

I know were you're at.We hunted the left side of the road right about were you're talking.I did my best by keying in on the oaks(about all they got to eat).KYHUNTER is right though, not as many deer as you would think. The best advice I can give is hunt through the week,it really thins out after opening weekend and the deer get back to doing their thing.Good Luck.

Were you there last year?? I drove to the back of the area, where there is a large field. Actually on one particular morning last year a tree had fallen across the road where we drove through, and a gentleman let me borrow his orange hat as I left the house without mine. They would have been hunting where you were last year.

Wasn't me.The last year I hunted Bernheim was 2001.

Sounds like area 5. I have never hunted that area. But my big buck was killed in area 6.
