Me personally, I like the FFG blackpowder. I've shot Pyrodex RS, but never really liked it. What do all of you guys shoot?

pyrodex. im thinking of switching to 777. by the way, last evening i was shootin my ml w/80 gr of powder, and jumped it up to 150 gr. and there was no noticable increase in recoil. does that mean i just wasted about 50gr. of powder?

Could be. Unlike a centerfire cartrige, with a muzzleloader, just as soon as the powder starts burning, it starts pushing the bullet down the barrel. You may have gotten a little extra powder burn before the bullet left, but I don't know how much. Right now, I'm getting great groups with 100 gr. of the FFG pushing a 325 gr. bullet in a sabott (.54 cal).
Goex FFG, 105 gr. under a .50 cal, 365gr Buffalo Bullet.

Shoot nothing but FFFg with round ball in both rifle and revolver, 70 grains in rifle and 35 grains in revolver, am satisfied with the performance I get.

80 grains of FFFg for my great plains rifle, with patched round ball. My ruger inline, pyrodex pellets, 100 grain Hornaday sabot.
Easy way to tell if your not burning all your powder. lay a white sheet in front of you on the ground, touch one off, and the unspent powder will be on the sheet. I think anything more then 90 grains of blackpowder, you are probably not burning it all. (now ask your wife first before you try this at home)

Valley, I'm shooting the Savage. It's an awesome thing. It's set up with 209s now. Pretty nice gun overall.

I'm still favor Goex: 80gr FFG behind rd ball in a 50 cal flint, or 80 FFG behind a 58 cal minie' ball in 1861 Enfield. 35gr FFFg and round ball in a Ruger Old Army. Have used several inlines & still own one, but I prefer the more traditional. Moslty where I hunt, I'm not going to get a shot beyond 40 yards anyway. If presented a shot further than my weapons capability, it's a lot of fun to try and close the distance! If I don't get him/her today, there is alwasy tomorrow.

And people said I was nuts for only shooting 80 grains in my .58 cal behind a round ball! Thanks Salty!

That ain't why people say your nuts![:D]
Good to hear you people using real black powder and patched round balls. You don't need to "Knock them down" they will fall after a well placed shot any way. I have been using only flintlocks for a long time now and have not lost one yet, 54 cal 80-85 grains fff goex always DOA. Of course I don't shoot everything I see, I pick my shots, not over 75-80 yards. My hunting is not competetive. Just show me the meat.

Big58Cal......back when the Americans fought the Yankess in the War of Northern Aggression, the standard issue 58 calibre load was 60-70 grains of FFG behind a 500-510 minie' ball. After the war, many of these old muskets when west and the same load "kilt" many injuns, buffalo, elk & bear. Don't know why 80 grains won't kill a deer in Kentucky?? You got the right idea! I had a 385 grain mold for a flat nose semi-wad cutter mine' made for mine. Since I dropped 115 grains in bullet weight I went up 10 grains in powder. Don't have to track deer hit with it, they will be right where they were when you pulled the trigger.

120 grains Triple 7 with a 295 grain powerbelt bullet -
2.5" high at 50 yards - 3" high at 100 yards and dead center at 150 yards...
Triple 7 is a breeze to clean after...
Good Hunting...Tim H.

i been usin accurate arms 5774 smokeless powder in my traditions in-line for 4 years now but its not recommended by the gun manufacturers or anyone else the gun could explode but i havent cleaned my muzzle loader in 3 yrs. either and by the way in case anyone wants to try it you use only 26 grains of powder and you have to weigh it not measure it its a hot load and you need to use either a musket cap or a 209 primer
just gotta have patience

Almost missed this one. I switched to the 777 this year in both my .32 (FFF) and .54 (FF). Both guns liked it and it does clean up quick. The funny thing I found was that it cost 24.95 a can at Wallymart and is under 20.00 everywhere else. It always make me smile when I see Wally's "low price always" ad.
It may be my imagination but the 777 does seem to kick a little more in the .54. My normal load is only 80 grains with a TC Maxi-hunter.

I don't shoot Blk. powder or the subsitutes any longer, but I know most man. don't recomend the Triple 7 much hotter than 100 grs. It's a lot faster burning than Blk. or pryodex

I shoot 65 grs. of FFFg in my .45 cal. TC sideloader with a max hunter bullet - this has proven to be an exremely accurate combination for over twenty years. I shoot 120 grs. of FFg in a Remington .50 cal. in-line with a 240 grain sabot. A quarter covers three shots from the Remington at 125 yards.

I'm shooting 70 grains of FFFg in a old H & R "Huntsman" inline .45 Cal. using a Buffalo Bullet Hollow Base .284 grain. I have killed deer from 150 yards in and most don't take a step. My son shoots a Knight .50 Cal with a .365 grain bullet and 100 grains of Pyrodex and hits them in the same location I do but they run to several yards. Whats the deal?
Is the H & R Huntsman the same gun now being made by New England using the same name?
I use 150 gr Pyrodex in my CVA Optima Pro w/29" barrel shooting 195 gr power belt bullets at 2333 FPS. 2.5" groups at 100 yards and shot one time from 200 yards the other evening and hit 2 inches hight and 4 inches to the left. It could have been me but still not bad at 200 yards.

Smokeless. Accruate Arms 5744, 44gr.
Always clean. No smoke after the shot so you can see the deer drop after you shoot....[:D]

Bought a new Thompson Center Black Diamond XR in October.Shooting 777 pellets and 240gr mag express.Easy loading after every shot with 777 and easy to clean. Also have a CVA Hawkin that I will load only black powder. That gun is just more fun to shot that way.
