I was told that the game wardens stated this elk is the new state record. RMEF is going to mount it and take it on the road for tours. The hunter is Frank Scott from Garrett, Ky. (Local boy does good.) :p The rifle is a borrowed Remington in 300 Win. Mag.

Troy Asher killed a good one on Begley Thursday, and it's a waiting game to see which one is larger. From what I heard, they are within 5 inches green scored.

It amazes me that elk can grow that much antler in a few months time.

Just think guys if it wasn't for the eastern ky mining activity we would never see the beauty of having these animals back home on our state. We owe alot of thanks to them.....

I heard this guy wasn't a hunter until he was drawn for the elk. Some may view that as a positive in that it makes a new hunter. I lean more toward rewarding the faithful who have been life-long supporters through license and fees with an elk tag. And if a guy is that old and doesn't hunt, he probably won't take it up now.

Not a popular opinion, but its mine.

How do you reward the faithful? What is "the faithful"?

Is the faithful someone who has hunted 5 years, 10 years? What about younger hunters?
How do you know how long someone has hunted? The dept doesn't keep records do they of who buys licenses 10 years ago?
I certainly see your point, I just think its impossible to initiate.

Well that would mean he...was in the truck when he shot it! Would suck to Take the state record only to find out someone video taped you shooting it from a vehicle. Yeah that would put elk P in your Cheerios.

It's a really Great bull. I look for the record to fall next year aswell. Will prob net out around 365.

Most of the pictures weren't taken until the biologists, CO's and such arrived. It was pretty hot Saturday afternoon but most people had coats or coverall on Saturday Morning, and by the time the elk was circled with 3 or 4 trucks and half a dozen people, the orange vests were in the truck with the coats.

Awesome bull. Looked even better through my Leupold 10 seconds prior to this hunter taking him.

Skipper, this bull was taken on Sunday morning right in front of Big Nasty and myself.

Like Big Nasty was saying he looked awesome through my binoc's and in just a few more seconds Big Nasty would have been the new state record holder.
