I got a new scope for my rifle a few months back. I've got in mounted and ready to go. Im having some trouble though. The scope adjust ring is tight as hell, I can barley move it with my fingers. I thought at first it was really tight just because it was a new scope but I've had the scope since june and I can't get the adjustment ring to turn back and forth any easier. Has anybody else ever had this problem?? Im scared if I dont get it working better Im gonna scare off a deer struggling to adjust the veiw power.

What kind of scope is it and where did you purchase it from? If it is tight as you say you should excahnge it and check the adjustments before you leave the store.

Make sure you have the correct rings. Rings come in 3 heights, and you need clearance between the ring and the gun.

ring hieght has nothing to do with moving the scope with your (fingers),as long as you can reach the top section and middle on both side there shouldnt be any problems.
what kind of scope is it?have you called the company that makes the scope?

It does if the power adjustment knpb doesn't have clearance to turn. If the knob turn fine before it was mounted, then it's a mounting problem, if not, it's a scope problem.

notice he said the ring is tight as hell,at first he thought it was tight cause it was a new scope, being that he had problly turned the scope bell before mounting it,sounds like to me from what i understand that it is still doing the same thing, not do to a ring clearence problem.

when you say adjustment ring, are you talking parallax adjustment, focus adjustment, or varialbe power adjusment? remove the scope from the rings. if it is still stiff, it is your scope. if it loosens up, it is probably the rings not in alignment, putting the scope tube in a bind. what type of bases and rings do you have, and what type of gun?

Doesn't say if the scope even has a bell design. It does say that the power view ring is tight....could be because the scope is mounted too low(no clearance) or it could be the scope is poor quality or defective.

I agree with all of you, but it can absolutely be a mounting problem. If the scope is in a bind it can certainly do this. But to be honest we don't have enough info yet from him for us to argue over what the problem is or isn't.
If its not tight when not on the gun then I think you just figured it out>Mike

Bingo.

If it works not mounted, it is your mounting. If so, make sure it is not mounted to far forward and binding on the ring. Or as stated, no clearance

It is a brand new Leupold scope. I bought it from the Bass Pro Shop in Pigeon Forge TN. The adjustment ring was tight before it was even on the gun. I just figured it would loosen with a little time.

i have a leupold that requires a death grip to turn....i checked it right out of the box, and like you, thought it would loosen up..to date it has not. i have sat on the couch turning it back and forth several times, and have caught myself doing the same while on stand..i will either wear it out and get it replaced or just deal with it....mine is on a ML, so i leave it on 4 power anyway....not much need in turning the power up unless i have a longer shot.

Call Leupold and ask them about it. They'll fix it or replace it.

Yea keith thats what Im gonna do too. When I get in my stand Im just gonna set it to the power I will want for the closest expected shot. My reason being if a deer comes in close, good I'll shoot it, If the deer is farther away I'll more than likely have no trouble adjusting the tight ring and getting the shot.

I just mounted a new Leupold VX-III and noticed the adjustment ring is tighter than on the older ones, I dont remember the others being that tight when they were new either. Mine isnt like your describing but it does require two fingers and a pretty good grip to turn it.

I have a leupold var xll it is tight as well I think it is just the way they are made I have had me 3 years it is still just as tight as it was the day i got it. I think it is alright. If there is somethig wrong with it they will replace it. That is the main reason I went with leupold.
