I was fortunate enough to be a part of two separate elk hunts this weekend. Saturday I called in a very nice 5x5 to 25 yards before my hunter, Steve Olson of Corbin, decided it was time. It has a 40" inside and close to 40" main beams. Sunday morning Robert Dunaway of Barbourville, a former member of team Quaker Boy, and I called in a huge 7x7 for Eric Hart, also of Corbin. This time it was only a 17 yard shot. We green scored him at 353 1/4". Though not a part of B&C scoring it had 12.5" bases. It also had 51 and 52" main beams and close to 19" daggers.

Two elk at a combined yardage of 43 yards! Wow, what a weekend.

Brutus should have some awesome video of a couple bulls that I called in to Big Nasty that were only a couple yards away. I am guessing they were about 5 yards away maybe less. They were getting a little too close so I just waved my hand to give them some motion and then he just eased back into the woods. His bigger brother was right behind him. Talk about a rush! If he would have bugled that close you would have probably been reading a few obit's about some poor elk hunters. :D

All together, I think I called in about a dozen or so legal bulls in a day and a half. I had a blast doing it too!

Here is the 5x5, not a monster but a monster of a hunt. I am on the left and Steve, the shooter is in the middle.

Nice job, those are 2 good bulls. Was that at Begley?

The 5x5 is from Begley and the 7x7 is from down the road a few miles in Ataya.

Is the bull from Ataya the tag that was auctioned off at the RMEF London Banquet?

Yes.

We loaded the 5x5 with an Autocrane. I'm not sure how they loaded the 7x7.

Yes, the 7x7 tag was auctioned at the tag from the banquet. The 5x5 is a landowner tag from Begley.

I did not get to help with the 5x5 as I had to get with my other hunter. The volunteers, like skipper, did a fantastic job of getting it loaded. Like skip said, they got ol' Roscoe to load it with his crane. As far as the 7x7 went loading was not as easy. It took 10 or 11 of us to pull it 100 to 125 yards through some thicket to get it to a Rhino. From there the Rhino drug it to the truck where it took everything 8 of us had to get it into the truck.

good night those things are huge, cant wait til elk hunting becomes statewide with no need for this selective hunting... i know it will be some time down the road but it will be well worth the wait

Looks like the guy who bought the RMEF tag knew something about that Ayala area that other people didn't???

Great elk for both hunters. Did you call 'em in with cow chirps, bugling or both?

That will never happen.

Parker, no I do not have any pics yet but I have seen them. It is incredible, the G5 is as long as the G4. Green scored 365 as a 6x6.

Both Saturday and Sunday mornings we used bugles to locate and keep a check of the bulls locations and cow calls to get them in. A lot like turkey.

Hey Pinwheel do you have any pictures of Troy's bull?

Taylor has some. He had them printed out Tuesday at the Leauge meeting.

Is the 7x7 Taylor's bull? I see him in the picture.

No, it is Eric Harts, owner of Tri County Cycle in Corbin. Taylor did not hunt this year, his dad did get a nice 6x6 though.
