This is a picture of a Hawk or a Falcon that has just caught a Dove and is eating it when a Rabbit comes over to see what is going on. I hope you can see from the picture. I took the picture while going for a walk with my family yesterday. http://static.flickr.com/86/261460598_b8e360ed7d_b.jpg

Wow. Whats just as amazing is that the hawk is that close to a bunch of houses.

What made me look over there in the first place was I heard the hawk or falcon hit the side of the house then saw it flutter down. I walked to within 30 feet of it before it flew off.

Nah, he's safe as a baby, knowing that the bird will occupy the hawk for a while, just like the wildebeest that grazes peacefully while the lions rip his unlucky cousin to shreds just a few yards away......"Well, looks like ol' Fred bought the farm. Good, that gives me a few hours of peace and quiet. Poor ol' Fred...I never did like him."

I was in the house one day and heard this squeaking in the front yard that just kept going. When I looked, it was a starling in the clutches of a sparrow hawk. The hawk wouldn't kill it, but held it in both claws while the thing squawked and flapped.

I peeked through the curtains and watched and finally it ate the breast (still alive!) and then flew off, leaving the carcass for me to dispose of.

It looks like a red tail hawk to me. If it's not, it could be a Cooper's hawk. Hard to tell from the pick.

That is a cool picture! Cooper's hawks are raptors, they eat other birds, rabbit may not have too much to worry about (not that he'd know this.)

Too small for RTH, Peregrine, or Goshawk.

Naah, hawks are all over the place nowadays. You can see them all up and down the interstates here in Louisville. I live 5 miles from downtown and opened up my front door one day and there was one standing there eating a starling.

Looks like a Broad-winged Hawk to me or possibly an immature Red-Tail.

But it's a little small (or that rabbit is huge), so it might also be a Cooper's Hawk or a female Peregrine Falcon.

Well you all arent going to believe it but yesterday morning I heard a big THUMP THUMP THUMP and I looked out my back door and he was in my screened in pourch chasing another dove. He couldnt find his way out so I had to escort him. I took some pictures I will post later. I am pretty sure it is the same bird.
