alright guys i know this is going to be a first on here. i work at a bowling center and the other nite i pulled a ball out of the ball return machine and it had about a 1 1/2 groove all the way around it and a big hole smashed in it from the machine. so the owner and i are real good friends, so he let me take it home. heres my plan. first im gonna shoot it with the muzzleloader:D and see what it does and then if theres anything left im gonna shoot it with my 30-30, and then if theres anything left after that im gonna shoot it with my .270 at 200 yd(depending on how much is left:eek: ). so what do ya think will happen to it?
i think the muzzleloader will split it into, but we will find out.

Am I supposed to assume that you will be able to hit the bowling ball? :D

I'm guessing the lead will decentigrate(sp) on impact if it dont glance off in unsafe directions

yes kalen i will hit the ball, but my dad did teach me how to shoot afterall:D . let me make this more clear the ball is a house ball so it is not a good hard bowling ball. i think that its a real hard plastic of some type with a steel weight inside. so it will not glance off the ball.

I think there will still be enough bowling ball left to bowl with.
trust me

I think the ball will absorb the slug with little damage to the ball.

How good of a shot are you?
I would think your best bang for the buck would be to put a 270 into one of the finger holes. Probably want to mark it by either putting some white out around the outside of it, or maybe sticking one of those sticker target dots over it. Depending on the ball, thumb hole is probably about 1" so it should be do-able.
I think if you hit the outside it will glance off w/o doing much to the ball. I would think something big and slow would deflect less, like a 12ga slug, but who knows until you try it.

i finally got time to shoot the ball. First i shot it with my muzzleloader. the 240 grain shockwave hit a lil high on the ball taking a chuck of the ball with, bout as big a my two fists. then i layed the 30-30 up there and shot it. the 150 grain hollow point split the ball into and pieces went every where. i saw the ball split in the scope b4 i felt the recoil.:D it was awesome. I thought i still got my 270 so what the hack. i shot one of the half piece and there was about 10 chuncks the size of golf balls left of what was about the size of a football.:D The ball was 53 yards aways and there was still some pieces that i couldnt find. all in all the 30-30 preformed the best. those winchester hollow points are bad news. but thats the end of my test. but i do still have another half left, just might see what dads 30-06 will do.

Next time try it at the Bowling Center. It's a lot more fun shooting at moving targets.

Bowling pins are incredibly tough. We've shot them with 30/06, 270, 9.3x74R and, well, a .357. You can hurt 'em, but you can't kill 'em.

I shoot pins quite a bit. They can take a beating -- I've chased them all over the field w/ 30rnd mags of 7.62X39 and they 'live' pretty well. My M1 in 30-06 does do a lot of damage to them though, FMJ isn't bad, but any expanding ammo pretty much mucks them up.
