Anyone know of a good paint/body guy in the general Lexington area.

I hit a piece of re-tread tire this morning in the rain and it tore a little of my bumper next to the wheel well on my truck.

It's just a little rip in the plastic bumper, but I stopped by a place near my office a few min ago and it looks like it's going to need a new cover. Of course that also means installation and paint for the replacement. Truck is a '06 Pathfinder so I'm having a problem finding the part online too.

Basically, it should be a really easy job, so I feel like I'm getting ripped off at the shop I stopped by. I'm in that limbo where it wouldn't be worthwhile to run it though my insurance, but it's still $$. I'd rather find someone, hopefully independent, who could do it on the side for a little less.

Any suggestions?

If you are willing to travel to Paris, KY just up the road I know a guy who is excellent and priced well. He used to be head over the body shop for a major Chevy Dealership. He is semi-retired and knows his stuff. He gets all my business. PM me if you would like his contact information.

What kind of rip are we talking about? Some could be reinforced and fixed, probably $300-$400,rather than paying$1200-$1500 for a new bumper cover, providing its OEM

There a Macco in lexington and from what I understand they're supposed to be the cheapest around, BUT I've never had any dealing with them. Good Luck!!!

I get everything done at autobahn on denis drive. They do good work, but not cheap. Something like that will not count against you on your insurance and I am sure the deductable is lower than what you will pay to have it fixed

Maacos quality is like dime store noveltys, not very good. In the collision repair business you get what you pay for and at the same time, you may not

Jeanie Meeks (the owner of Maaco in Lexington) has lived across the street from my mom for years. When I asked her about getting a car painted 5 years ago, she said she could do it, or I could take it somewhere and get a nice paint job. I took it somewhere else! :D Maaco is Lexingtons answer to Earl Scheib.

What material is the cover made of? Should be able to just weld it or glass it together from the back and fix it depending on how big the crack is. If it is stretched or stressed then you may have to replace it. In most shops you are looking at $1200-1500...you may find somebody to do it for $600. I have done body work since I was 16(8 years) and believe me and whoever else said it...you get what you pay for and DON'T go to maaco! They tried to get me to buy and open a franchise in Owensboro and I just laughed.
