I doubt that many people do this, but honestly I cannot stand to be hunting out in the woods for hours without some water. After a couple of hours I'm just going nuts wanting a drink. I usually bring a water bottle with me. Problem is that typical bike bottles will make all kinds of noises, gurgling, squirting, air suction, all kinds of mess, then they'll leak on you, then there's the visual action of actually turning the thing up to get a swig.
I recently picked up a Camelbak water bottle and all of these things are eliminated, I'm pretty impressed. It's made out of the same stuff as a Nalgene, so it's virtually unbreakable from just dropping it. It does not leak one drop. It does not make noises whatsoever. You don't even have to turn it up, just keep the bite valve flipped up and raise that to your mouth with it pointed up.
So basically if you do the same thing or have at least thought about it, check these bottles out, they're really nice, they're just $12, you can order them online or most nice outdoor adventure oriented shops should be able to get them. Hooper's in Paducah has them in stock.

I have been using one for years and it still has that nasty rubbery taste. I soaked with baking soda water, still no help. How does the water taste out of yours? Maybe they have the problem fixed in the new ones? Got my fingers crossed.:)

When you say you've been using it for years, do you mean you've used it twice a year for years or you have been using it several times a week for years? Big difference. Their kinda like a new pair of boots, you gotta break them in.
I used one everyday for a year and it was a god send. I don't go anywhere without water and the camelback is a great idea IMO. Yeah, sometimes the bladder breaks, but you can buy heavy duty replacements. There are many different brands out there and some are cheap/cheesy, so look them over before you buy.

The problem with typical CamelBak bladders is that it's not food grade plastic. To completely get rid of this you will need to go with something like a Platypus bladder, which is food grade. You can minimize this by only filling up your Camelbak right before you need to use it. The longer the water sits in there, the worse the plastic taste will be.
Now, with that being said, what I was talking about with the Camelbak water bottles, it's not a bladder at all, it's almost just like a Nalegene bottle, it doesn't taste like plastic like the bladders do. Maybe you're talking about the bite valve itself, I'm not sure, but Camelbaks are notorious for the plastic taste of their bladders.

I use mine all of the time. I don't have the water bottle, but the regular camelback I got issued to me. As far as the rubber taste, sure beats a canteen.:D
