Hey guys....I'm finally breaking down and trying my hand at muzzle loading...I have hunted with them before, but if all goes as planned, soon I'll actually own one :) Got a friend that warned me about mounting one of my better scopes on it....says they mangle scopes and its not a good idea. Any advice?

There's no reason that I know of that a ML would mess up a well made scope. If there is, I've never seen it. I've seen cheap Simmons and Tasco scope last for eons on ML's. ML's are shoot a lot fewer times than most other scoped rifles, so that might help?

The only real difference in a true ML scope vs. a regular scope is the paralex free range. Most of the time and a rifle scope it is 150 yards, but a ML scope, it is normally 75 yards. On modern in-line regular rifle scopes work because of the potential range of the newer rifles to shoot out to 200 yards.

I have a Leupold VX-II 3X9 on my Remington just like any other rifle, I'm not at all afraid to take a 150 yard shot with it the way its been shooting.
Some muzzleloaders may get some soot on the scope depending on how they are made.

i think your friend may have mistaken a ml for a air rifle . a air rifle will mess up a scope. id get a good rimfire or shotgun scope and u good to go.

Tape the bottom portion of your scope up with Mylar tape. It's clear, and you won't see it once it's on there. Makes cleaning the scope a non-issue and eliminates corrosion of the alum. body.
