I got into a big drawn out conversation about this little gun at the local shop the other day.. Several people there think its a near useless shell because they cant kill with it. I think that its a fine little gun but for expierenced shotgunners. Its not that it shots with less energy or veocity just that you have a limited ammount of shot to utalize. I think it kills just fine if you know the limitations of the shell. I think you need to be a bit more precise with the .410 as you have less shot to work with. Whats your opinion.

I agree that it is a fine little gun. The key, as you said is knowing it's limitations. I prefer to shoot the smaller guages such as .410 and 28 guage.

.410 was my first shotgun... That was all I used for squacks and rabbits when I first started hunting with my dad... Killed plenty with it...

i had an 870 rem. in 410, used it one year, killed just as many doves and grouse with it as any other shotgun i used, just have to consider less range. i have a springfield bolt action i use some, killed a rabbit last year about fourty steps, and took a few squirrels with it over dogs. all things considered i would rather have a 20, but i always seem to have a 410 around until it trades. tr

I love the 410 and 28, but for the last few years I have been using the 1100 .410. It is a great little dove and rabbit gun. I also have a 28 in the 1100 and a 28 red label that I use primarily on quail. I have already taken the 410 on three dove hunts this year and came home with three limits you just have to pick your shots a little better with the small bores.

I've always had good luck with the .410 (3-Inch Shells). One just has to know its limitations and just the right size of shot. My Stoeger S/S Uplander likes #5 shot the best. About the only thing worthless in .410 bore is the rifled slug loading.

I killed several crows and starlings with a .410 when I was small.

My grandfather used a .410 double barrel to dispatch all sorts of critters from squirrels, birds to rabbits.

I've gotten into the very same discussion/argument myself. I think a lot of the problem is that the person that thinks that they're not good for anything has never even shot one or were unable to hit anything with one.

I love the .410. I use it for Rabbit and Squirrel mostly but have havested deer with it if I could find slugs. I still have the first one I learned on when I was a kid.....Topper JR. I also have a Remington Wingmaster that I Love.

I have several 410's and love to shoot them.
I've recently lent one to a buddy for his little boy to use.
killed his first squirrel sun morn.
Most excited little feller you ever seen.Killed his first RECORD book squirrel about thirty steps using 2 1/2 in. shells.lol
So what I'm saying is this; if a 8 yr. old can do this why not others?
Why blast a squirrel -rabbitt with 1 1/4 12 ga # 4's ?
I consider large shot guns over kill.Meaning I dont groundhog hunt with hh 375.
Dont under estimate the 410 -fill a gallon milk jug with water and step off 20 steps and see what it does.

So, would any of you use the .410 with slugs for deer? I have a young guy that has been practicing taking shots with slugs from about 25 yards, and he is dead on. The place I'm going to take him hunting presents many shots at that distance. I have let him use my inline before, but he really likes the feel of the .410 and has shocked me with his accuracy. As long as he fully knows its limits, won't this gun work?

The only thing I can find wrong with a .410 is the price of a box of shells.

My son killed his first doe last year with a 410 slug - one shot was all he needed. Great hunting gun for young kids to start out with!!

One shot, from a 22 rim fire will kill a deer, with correct bullet placement.
The low energy small calibers and gauges, will do it, but, the margin of error on shot placement is more critical.

I have many fond memories from carrying a .410 as a kid, and I sure put a mess of rabbits on the table with it.

I don't have one at the moment, but I'm going to start looking around for one, or get the Briley tubes for my Citori.
