Could anyone tell me if the savage 111FCXP3 would be a good rifle to purchase

Savage makes very accurate rifles "out of the box", and for the money (and maybe near twice the money?) as good as "stock gets"???

And now available with the Accu-Trigger,(it is NOT available on that model though) :( the one safe to user adjust trigger on the market (standard too), I'd say it's well worth looking at, checking how it fits/feels etc.

They may not be the prettiest girl at the dance, but they do what they need to do, without any fuss, and oftne better than rifles that cost twice as much!
:)

Not the best scope (or mounts) but a "workable deer rifle" no doubt...

I just bought one this summer in .270 Win flavor.

As far as being accurate "out of the box", well, after breaking in the barrel I noticed it did shoot very tight groups. The problem was they were about 18" to the right and about a foot high (at 100yd). Once I got the scope dialed in, it's dead on.

I had to sand off some sharp edges on the checkering on the synthetic stock.

It's light. Kicks like a mule. Not unbearable, though. Get a recoil pad.

Other than that, though, I love it. Very nice gun for the money. I plan on using it to fill my freezer with Odocoileus Virginiana in a couple months (hopefully).

One more thing: Although I used Wal Mart's website for much of my research, I ended up buying it from my local gun store. It cost about 30 bucks more but, to me, it was worth it on principle alone.

That's a scope issue, not an accuracy issue, the "tight groups" (though not where they should be) tells the "tale" :D
