Guys I have lived here four years and have never seen so many poults running around. Today I was headed towards the house from a job site and the within the last mile before hitting the driveway I had to stop three times to let hens and poults get out of the road. One flock had five hens and twenty two poults, another was a flock of three hens and eighteen poults the last flock just above the house was three hens, one jake and ten poults. Also the wife said there was a flock of ten jakes out back today around noon in the yard.

I agree... I don't remember seeing this many on Fort Knox last year so i'm kind of excited to see the next couple of springs come.

I've been really impressed, also.
I saw two(2) hens and one(1) poult in Area 6 of Ft Knox, one day last week.

I guess you're on the wrong side of post then because all up and down 7th Armored there are all kinds of poults with hens and I've seen more Toms this time of year than i did in the spring:confused:

Luke,
With last falls heavy acorn mast on post and perfect nesting conditions this spring we're bound to have had a good hatch. Seen one ol' hen settin' 18-19 eggs over in Area 19, this past spring.
Haven't spent much time on post so far to see, but, that's about to change in about a week.

Im sorry Multi, i simply don't know why last years hatched suked! Best, most plausible reason i heard was the poor mast crop in o4 resulted in poor health hens. Sounds good 2me! Other than that, it had all the ingredients 2b as good as the 06 hatch has evidently!

Been seeing one group of 22 and another of 15 with jakes and long beards. But for some reason they are never together. They travel the same route but the jakes and long beards are usually a couple hours behind the hens and youngins. I am not a turkey buff so I don't know why they are seperated but sure does look like its going to be a good spring for turkey hunting.
