Ok Guys and Gals,

I just got the official word that there will be a cookoff/cookout at the Salato Center on Sept 23rd honoring National Hunting and Fishing days. It will be filmed for Ky Afield and photographed by several sporting/hunting mag's. I do not know any other details yet but will post up on August 24th when they are released to me.
This is a great opportunity to help support KDFW and have a great time. I hope that we make a good showing on this so that they make it an annual event. I do know that there will be alot of games for kids little and big.
Soooo plan on cleaning out those freezers and let's see all those cookers that I have been hearing about. It doesn't matter if it as small as a Weber or as big as a JeeP !

Ok gang, here's the details.

The cookout/cookoff is going to be in the grass area out in front of the Salato Center. The judging will be done by a panel and they will not know who cooked what. IF you do not want to compete for a trophy you are more than welcome to just show up and cook what you want or just come eat. Everyone that cooks will have to register reguardless of whether or not you compete. You MUST register ahead to cook due to some other issues they need to have a general headcount on participants. Competition contestants will be charged $10 per item entry. The money will go to help cover the cost of the trophy's. There are already 2 girls teams signed up ! :D
The set up area will be available starting on Friday 22nd after 12 noon. The gates will open at 7 am on Saturday 23rd. There is plenty of room and Salato is very easy to get too. There are a few campgrounds nearby that have nice facilities. Call Salato for any needed info. 502-564-7863. There is NO camping onsite !!! There is also NO electric onsite so make sure you bring a Generator if you have those needs cooking or otherwise.

The following will be the food categories;

BBQ
Venison
Elk
Exotic
Fish
Fowl
Soup/Stew
Chili

IF you are going to do this event please bring atleast enough food to feed 10 to 20 folks plus what the Judges require. The teams that have already registered will be bringing enough for 100 people. I have been told that there are many visitors to Salato on the weekends and we sure do not want to run out of groceries. IF you get a Doe that morning and want to cook it , we can make room in Ole Smokey JeeP for you.
Kentucky Afield will be on the grounds interviewing and taping segments for upcomming shows so wear your cleanest bibs and slick back that hair so you look as pretty as Tim Farmer does ! :D

IF there is anything else that you want to know, just PM me, email me, or call Salato and we will try to get your answers. THANKS and I hope to see you there !!!

I hope you come out. IF we have a good turnout they want to make it an annual event. There will be fishing, and games for kids to do. That is a beautiful place and we all should support it. After all, where can you go and get free homestyle groceries ? THANKS ! :D

That is not correct ! The public is invited to participate free. They can however make a donation if they so desire. Hopefully they will be kind enough to do so. :D

Ryan,,,, feel free to ask anything you want. IF I can't answer it for you, I will find out. :D

No, you do not have to register to just show up and eat.

Maybe some of the guys going to Ham Days can stop by and see us on the way over ? I will have goodies ready long before lunchtime. :D

Cookoff is still on !!! I just got off the phone from Frankfort and we have made arrangements to have space in 3 seperate areas for folks that need to work inside (crock pots, electric outlets). These are bare minimum usage areas. Make sure you bring EVERYTHING you need to complete your dishes. They will only have water and electric in these rooms.
All the outside cookers will now be in the parking lot and not in a grassy area. Bring your pop-ups and let's have a good day no matter what Motha Nature does. See you in the AM cookers ! :D
