DC- the question has come up in the turkey forum that needs some explanation. Why is there a different standard used for youth deer hunters verses youth turkey hunters and youth hunting on WMA quota hunts? Couldn't this thing be standardized and have the same age requirement for a youth through out the different seasons???

Multi,
Standardization is usually a good thing--less confusion more fair, etc. Turkey hunting rules (youth) and other hunting (youth) will probably come together in the future.

For now the only explanation I can offer is that turkey hunting is still in its "novel" phase with a rapidly growing constituency. As with all relatively new endeavors there is a learning curve (yep, even for our beloved KDFWR)and we're lower on it for turkey than we are for deer. Another bit of difference re: turkey and deer hunting concerns hunter densities. The deer woods can support more hunters than the turkey woods and still provide a quality experience (low interference/chances at game).

These probably aren't very good answers to your question but they represent my best figuring at the moment.
