I have one in .243. Nice guns, but the trigger is a bit on the heavy side. I guess it depends on what you are going to use it for. If you do a lot of target shooting you may want to look more at a Savage with accu-trigger.

You might want to check out Graybeard's Outdoors forums. They have an entire section on H&R---NEF rifles and some folks who really know and love their single shots. I have (or I should say my grandson has) a NEF 243 that you couldn't pry from his hands:)

i talked to the new england rep and he said that i could send it back when i get it and they will adjust the trigger down to three lbs,he said they are not going to be doing this much longer so if you want to get yours done better hurry up.

I have a NEF Superlight with a synthetic stock in .243. I sent it back to the factory for a trigger job, which they did for free, & now the trigger breaks like glass at 3 lbs. This is a very accurate little gun & a bargain if there ever was one. I keep mine with me in the truck at all times. I would suggest you get a synthetic stock as they are tough as nails.

I have owned them in .223, .243 and .25/06.........they were all tack-drivers. Good rifles to say the least.

As posted in another thread, I have one in .223 and love it. These are great little guns for a very reasonable price. You also have the option to purchase other caliber barrels. IMO, you cannot go wrong with a NEF.

I have a Topper Model H&R that was the predecessor or the Handi-rifles and Ultra Hunter/Varmints in .22 Hornet and 20 guage. It's a great little single shot. For the price, you just can't beat 'em!

My father in law bought one in 223 and it had the roughest bore I've ever seen on a gun and didnt group very well. After lapping the bore and it being shot some its exceptable but I wouldnt call it a tack driver. The first couple rounds after cleaning still shoot about 6 inches higher than the rest and it doesnt shoot its best until the barrel is well fouled.
Maybe he just got a bad one but it will have to be a heck of a deal for me to buy one.

A lot of folks have a similar complaint. The NEF rifles i have had seem to shoot better after a couple of hundred rounds are sent downrange. Also, you might tell your father in law to brace the rifle back toward the action instead of toward the front of the forearm. Many folks have found them much more accurate from a bench when resting the rifle as close to the action as possible.

I'll try that if and when I shoot it agian, I've shot it way more than he has just trying to get it to shoot. If it was anything other than a 223 I would have probably given up, I have a problem burning more $ of ammo than the gun is worth just to get comfortable enough with its accuracy to use it in the field. I feel like I owe it to even a varmint to make a humane kill. Well...unless its a cat.

I have a synthetic stainless .223 and a blue 7mm-08 NEF Handi-Rifle. I love them both. Actually, the 7mm-08 is my son's. The only gripe I have, and it really isn't a gripe, is that my .223 is very particular about different brands of cartridges. If I sight it in with Winchesters, I have to stick with Winchesters, even if using the exact same bullet weight. But it may only be that my Remington Model 700 has me spoiled. My advice is buy the NEF Handi Rifle. I have had more fun with them than any other rifle I have owned in the last 20 years. The caveat is that 7mm-08 ammo is a little more pricey than your more common rounds.
