I have a shotgun question. I just bought a Charles Daly 20 gauge automatic. Can I shoot deer slugs from a standard barrel or do I need to buy a slug barrel? I bought the gun to rabbit hunt with. Big Nastys 8 year old daughter used it to shoot a nice longbeard this spring. It's light and dosent kick much. I thought she might be able to handle this with deer slugs.
trust me

Use the Improved Cyl choke and try it. I've shot slugs with just a front bead sight and done fair enough out to 50 yards. Slugs pack a punch, even 20 gauge, so it deserves some experimentation before turning it loose on a child.

You can definitely shoot slugs from that barrel. It might shoot them very well with nothing added, or if you have a vent rib a simple set of sites will help a lot. I have a 20 ga. NEF single shot that has taken 6 deer in 6 shots. I got lucky in that this gun will hit point of aim at 50yds with regular winchester slugs. I keep shots to 50 and under when hunting with this "pardner". Just have to try it to see what your gun will do.

Should work well enough with regular slugs , the saboted slugs need a rifled barrel usually to shoot well.......might have to try a few different brands to find out which ones the gun likes. :)

You are very welcome Bruttus!
I believe the CD takes Remington screw in chokes. Shouldn't be too much trouble to find a 20 Ga. Remington rifled choke tube and go to sabots if you want. I would advise you go to the reduced recoil slugs because they seem to shoot better in rifled choke tubes than the full powers and also for the recoil factor. Much cheaper than buying a rifled barrel if yopu can find one. Just another alternative.

A very good idea, if he wants to shoot sabots!
