Who do you feel has the best safety design?I personally think the 3 position on the Model 70 Winchesters is pretty hard to beat.I currently do not own one but have in days past.

I now shoot Remington 700 and model 7's.I like their design pretty good as well.

Some guns I've seen, you have to have the safety off and in the fire position before you can even raise the bolt.Ain't that a bit dangerous?

The reason behind that design is to make sure the bolt stays down while your hunting. It's extremely important when hunting dangerous game in brush or thick cover where you could get charged and at some point, your bolt had gotten raised somewhat, making you supper for the rest of the day. All safety designs are good as long as they work.
