Even after, Indiana raised the cost for Kentucky hunters to turkey hunt in Indiana in 2007.
I'll be "Durned" if Frankfort hasn't gone and reduced the cost of 2007 NR Fall turkey permits to Indiana hunters by nearly 1/2 .
NR permit cost for 2006 was $100.00, in 2007 it will be $60.00.
Ky resident fall permit cost remained unchanged at $30.00, but, NR fall permits drop to $60.00. What's wrong with this scenario??
"Dang, who's drivin' this bus"??

It's an increase from what it was 2 years ago. They made a mistake when they created the NR turkey tag and made it a one turkey deal at $50. On top of the higher license price under our structure, it made it too high to buy for most NR's. This change makes it a 2 turkey tag at a better price. They'll sell a few of them now, maybe.

i just feel like we got it pretty good here in KY - and we ought to get a premium for our turkey tags. if the outta state folks don't want to pay it - GREAT!:)

The tag is double what you pay, plus they pay a lot more for a license.

No.
The 2006 NR fall permits are setup as a fall archer permit and a fall gun permit at $50.00 each. Limits are same as resident permits.
Proposed for 2007 , is one(1) NR fall turkey permit, good for gun and archery, for $60.00, with a fall limit of four(4) turkey, two(2) allowed with a gun.
And it cost us $206.75 in Indiana for one ol' bird!

hrruummppphhhhh!

Annual NR - 115
Deer NR - 50
Spring Turkey NR - 50
Fall Archery Turkey NR - 50
Fall Gun Turkey NR - 50

Grand Total of $315 for me this fall and another $315 for my father. Hope we help the conservation effort in KY on our private land we hunt. This is a lot more than we used to pay. This land is not available to residents.

Sirgiovanni,
Indiana has good deer and turkey less than a hour from my house.
I used to deer and turkey hunt in Indiana, but, they decided to limit NR hunters by outragious priced license fee.
For a Kentucky hunter to purchase similar "hunting priviledges" in Indiana, the following cost would apply.

NR hunting license - $80.00
Game Bird Permit $6.75
Nr Spring turkey - $120.00
NR Fall turkey - $120.00
NR Archery deer - $150.00
NR MLoader deer - $150.00
NR gun deer - $150.00

Similar grand total to hunt Indiana : $776.75A
And only includes two ol' turkeys, with six(6) bird limit in Ky.

Starting this year, you buy one DEER license at $150, and ALL OTHER tags you buy are $24. PLus, you don't have to buy the NR Hunting License with deer tags. You do have to buy a NR license to turkey hunt, ame as they do here. Ky. doesn't price on what other states charge, rather on what they value our game to be worth.

Dont worry Valley the KDFW can afford it now that they dont sell the Kentucky Afield Magazine to the LKS members at a discount! The KDFW thinks the mag is worth a premium but out Turkey and Deer are not!

Too funny.....the LKS never even asked for a price break on the magazine when the issue was discussed. Not a peep. As for the price of turkeys, Jim Lane needs less money now that the turkey flock is doing so well. :D :D :D

It would just be nice, and productive, if the States of Indiana & Kentucky could just work together. Both have positive management programs for both Deer & Turkey. I just wish the "Powers-that-be" could get together and work for the good of the sport and the Hunter, both Resident & Non-resident of both our fine states.

VS-- Indiana is cheaper if DEER are all your after and you only kill two deer.

First tag $150 --any second tag is $24, that includes the second either sex tag if that is your second tag.

You don't need to buy a license, as this is a license.

I have never tagged 6 turkeys in a single year. I used to buy the archery tag for use while deer hunting. But it's just not worth it anymore. I've also kinda lost interest in fall shotgun for the price on harvesting hens. We can tag out easily on hens in the fall, but it just isn't the same as calling in Males in the spring. I think in that respect, KY is making less off me than when prices were more balanced for the fall. These are old arguments though. What does price do to legal tagging? What good does it do to grow the population on private grounds? When has anyone ever felt that Indiana prices were reasonable? What does that have to do with KY? Is it just payback time?

It all seems to come back to bitterness, in my opinion, that individuals feel there is not enough game out there for them in KY. That's hard for me to believe. It's not like walking into a pin and shooting something, but I have yet to go hungry from year to year. I have a hard time believing anyone else, working at the woods as hard as me, is not having similar results.

Yes, it's a product of pay-back. Some Ky. hunters don't want any NR hunters, same as in Ind. with Ky. hunters. Over there, we see the leader of the Indiana Deer Hunters Assoc. asking for even higher fees for Ky. residents. You'll also see that here. Our Commissioners don't seem to be vindictive about it and want to price the permits so that they will sell, and still be affordable to most.

Multi,
Just talked to head of Indiana law enforcement.
He said fall of 2006 NR deer permit cost are $150.00 each, except , the
2nd Bonus Antlerless tag is $24.00. 1st Bonus Antlerless is $150.00.
Permits required for each method(archery,ML or modern), as in the past.
Bet they will not get much help from NR on their doe harvest, at $150.00.
You can take (2) does for $174.00, but, (1)buck & (1) doe is $300.00.
Also, Indiana 2006-2007 Hunting Guides , just came out and available at Walmarts.

Tom,

The President of the Indiana Deer hunters Assoc. is an "Idiot" Many Hoosier Hunters don't agree with him on many things. Kentucky Hunters are always welcome to hunt in our State. It is unfortunate that there exist such price differences in the two States. Many, here in Indiana, think we should allow a two deer limit on regular tag as does Kentucky plus bonus tags for antlerless Deer the same price for everyone regardless of Resident or Non-Resident status. Thing are in such a mess here in Indiana, and lots of bickering back and forth. One only need to view one of the three Indiana Hunting forums to find that out.

My spin on things is Indiana lost thier a$$ on the life time license deal and now they're stickin' it to us all. Fees are dang high for us residents too. I wouldn't mind it quite so much if they actually did something with the outragous fees they collect. They just blew a chance to lease nearly 30,000 acres in southern Indiana for about$90,000 a year. A small amount considering how much the state spends every year for other things. Indiana sportsmen are on the bottom of the list when it comes to spending state money. I can't blame you all for being upset with our prices most of us hoosiers who hunt here and in Kentucky are too! Tom

I agree with Multi on the price of the bonus tags being $24.00.. I see what you're saying Valley Station, and I really dont know for sure..but I looked at the guide several times and from best I can tell it looks like your first tag is $150.00 and each additional bonus is $24.00... Who knows? I'm usually wrong......:(

Tom,

You are SO CORRECT about the Lifetime Licenses that Indiana offered. I knew from the "get-go" that they would loose money in the long run. Not only did the State loose the 30,000 acres in Southern Indiana, but it is my understanding that some of the existing public hunting grounds may be dropped too. Well, what can one say but "Thanks For Nothing "MY MAN MITCH"!! I believe that "Major Moves" Mitch will be a one term Governor!! ~ GOOD!!!
