Driving around parts of south central ky , it looks to me like there are a lot of poults this year...at least the broods you see have a large number of birds in them. one brood of 12 that I have seen for a month are 2/3 of the way to grown it looks like. Good sign.

They were probably a month to six weeks old.

My family and I have been seeing 3 hens with 20 poults in our yard and front field. This is the first time in 4 years we have seen any poults within 3 miles of our house. My kids are going to be able to enjoy something at such a young age that I never experienced..Our state is awesome.

There were 3 hens with about 20 poults on the front of our place when I drove up yesterday. (Washington Co) Poults were about a foot tall. They were able to fly pretty well already.

I have seen more poults this year than I have seen in several years. It seems the hatch is spread out, on my place in the last week I have seen from quail size to chicken size.

Well from what i have been reading and seeing the hatch was a Very good one, I also have been seeing 3 hens with 17 poults, Ive got some pictures just need to figure how to post them here, They seem too be about 2' tall and looked really good, I was able to get a few pictures of them along with the hens, and then iam sitting back at the house on the porch swing and out of the Johnson Grass pops a big Tom he stand in the road and looks right at me then flys into the lower fields, awsom sight, I just started Turkey hunting last Spring and Fell in love with the Sport so all the sighting of turkeys get me Fired up.

The biologist theory is that it takes something over 3 poults per hen as an average survival to maintain the population at its then current level. I am seeing very few barren hens and the groupsof poults are proably averaging 5-6 per hen or maybe even better. I spect this may exceed or rival the alltime prvious best hatch in the mid-south.
