What do you want to hunt? If you have never hunted anything, I would suggest you start with squirrel hunting. I grew up on a farm & that's how I & most of my friends got started. Hunting squirrel can teach you how to sit still, pay attention, & be patient. Maybe you can find a mentor that will help you.

There are a lot of people who hunt but not too many really good hunters. Like anything, you have to want to be good & put in the effort.

I second that. Squirrell season is but a month away. Looks like its gonna be alot of squacks out there, so it should be a great year to get started!

yeah i think what you have to do first is to decide what animal/s to hunt for..then look for somebody that is skilled in that area. You can also read books or articles for tips on hunting. But for me the best way is to go out into the woods with a mentor and observe! :D
Good luck!

I bet most of us never would have learned how if someone hadn't taught us. I'm sure most of us learned "by default"; meaning that's what our GrandDad/Dad/Uncle/Relative/Friend did every chance they got and we showed an interest.

LouBeth, you need to find somebody to show you how, and you're not gonna figure it out sit'n behind a computer monitor (though you may find somebody on this site to help you). Get out in the woods, listen to your ears ring after you fire that first shot, bask in that dull, comforting ache left in shoulder from that 12 gauge. Get mud on your boots. Get the blood from your first kill on your hands and under your nails. CLAIM YOUR PLACE IN THE FOOD CHAIN!!!!

Can't beat that primer on your way to a hunting education.

All great advice from everyone. Just try and learn everything you can about the game you will hunt. Always enjoy yourself and obey the game laws.
