Where I work, we have 2 Hondas that are 20 years old. They are still very quite.

If quietness overrules price honda makes a "suitcase" totable Generator.
They have EU1000 and the EU2000 models. I have a Eu2000 which is excellent for Small Power jobs. (2000 watts) It was enough to run a 6000btu a/c window unit-fans and a few lights after last years storms. It is the only generator that I know of which can safely run computers. They are extremely quiet and fuel efficient as compared to the contractors 5500-6000 watt ones with Briggs or techemusch(sp) engines.
Ave retail in our area is 750.00 for the EU1000 and 975.00 for the Eu2000.
However I bought one off E/bay for 815.00 . They are very pricey when you can get a a large generator 5500+ for 650-700.00 with a briggs engine.
you can google "honda generators" and they will pop up or you can
go to WWW.hondapowerequipment.com
If you like night fish --that is the only way to go--most guides in this area use them because of moveablity and heat issues from exhaust.

I Got A Honda A Couple Of Years Ago When A Tornado Hit And We Were Without Power For About A Week....Hondas Are So Quite,I Had To Check Every Hour Or So To See If It Was Still Running And If The Power Came Back On!

I have a Honda EU2000 that is unreal. You can stand next to it and talk to someone in a normal voice. A few feet away from it and you almost have to look to see if it's still running.
I have a Honda EX 5500. It is water cooled and super quiet. It is on wheels, but still weighs 450 lbs...........
I would not have any other kind.

As far as the quiestet goes in my opinion you can not beat the Honda EU series or the Yamaha EF Series. I have been 20 feet away from the EU1000 and I could not hear it running with 1/2 load on the generator. I know that if I have to buy one I would be getting the EU2000 but close to $1000 is holding me off.
The honda is 53-59 db
The mfg website is here http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/ModelDetail.asp?ModelName=eu1000i
The Yamaha is 47-57 db
I have seen alot of websites that list the Yamaha as 27 db but that is incorrect. The MFG link is here http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outdoor/products/modelhome/442/0/home.aspx

If you get one of the contractor genterators, you can set it farther away from your cabin. Just run a 12-2 or a 10-2 gauge wire from the generator to the cabin. That is what my brother in law did at his cabin.

Honda's are good generators...we used to use them at our work and never had ant problems with them.
