Last night I went to the free concert held at Ashland's Central Park. I had the pleasure of listening to the best Blues Band I have ever heard. The Larry Whitt Band was absolutely awsome. I had never heard of these guys before but how they remain quiet I will never know. If they ever play in your hometown I highly recommend you go listen, you won't be dissappointed. Great night of music with alcohol free entertainment so family can enjoy. The Larry Whitt Band____FANTASTIC!!

Yes, I believe we are talking about the same guy. He was born in Ashland but has been performing in Chicago for the last few years I understand. You are right he is awesome!!

He has his own unique style of Blues and I could listen to it all night. I don't mean to sound likea promoter but they are fantastic, best Ihave ever heard. I talked to him after the show and hesaid he would be playing some this summer at Benjy's in Huntington, Wva.

I know the guys in both these bands and they are awesome.

Check out their music if you like Blues. Thackery can play Hendrix like you won't believe. Even upside down and behind his head.

Tab Benoit is from a small town 100 miles south of New Orleans. He plays some kind of mean Delta Blues.

Glad some other people on here appreciate the blues. One of my biggest regrets is not getting to see John Lee Hooker perform before he died. Oh yeah, by the way Muddy Waters' blues album with Johnny Winter is one of the best albums ever recorded, in any genre.

I love the blues. I have not seen a good local act in some time. Seems to me like a lot of the modern blues bands started to disappear in the late 90's for whatever reason.

I highly recommend SRV at El Mocambo or Montreaux.

I did get to see B.B King with Robert Cray and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

WHOA I bet that was a good show ? I have seen all those guys but not together.

You guys ever make it to Chattanooga to the Bessie Smith Strut ? There is like 12 stages and music everywhere ! Pretty cool time but it is always hotter than heck when they have it.

Back in the 90's they used to have the Lexington Blues Festival out at the KY horse park... Man it was great. With as many people that showed up to see some of the greats I just can't imagine why they stopped doing it.

I know a guy here in Lexington that rode on the same helicopter that SRV died on just the day before going to a boat race in Madison or somewhere... Talk about crazy.:( Now THAT would have been a show!!!!!! Clapton, Cray, and SRV!

The Robert Cray Band is also a great band. I have several of their CD's.

Robert Cray is a great player and one of the most underrated bluesmen there is IMO.

3toes, I tried to find some contact information for Larry Whitt and came up empty. I had thought about getting a blues band to play during the Kentucky Apple Festival, I have only one slot left to fill for this years dates of Oct 6th and 7th. Looks like our lineup is going to be great again this year, all free to the public.

Highbow, I could not find a web-site for them either. I did find out today that the bass player is the brother of my next door neighbor. I will try & get some info on how to contact & I will get back with you as soon as possible. May take a day or two due to holiday.
