I see that next seasons youth hunt is moved within a weekend of regular season. Why no one week buffer as in the past? Looks like a recipe for hunt interference from scouters & frankly, i don't blame other hunters. Seems most everyone was considerate of the youngsters & stayed out of the woods when the youth season fell opening weekend of April. With it butting up against regular season, be tuff to expect similar consideration. Could the season not come in March 31st/April 1st?

Good point Turk, and I see your frustration, but if it will get kids involved the right way in turkey hunting then I would be willing to sacrifice a couple days off from scouting.
It will give you a couple of days to get the honey-do's out of the way, and get guns cleaned.

Not frustrated for myself, but concerned that this will lead to scouting interference by others while im taking my daughter. I think this is a poorly thought out date.

Turk2di..... I'm just speculating here but I figure when the KDF&WR adopted the youth turkey weekend.... it was set as the first full weekend in April . How it was worded probably kept it from being adjusted to allow for a weekend free before regular season begins. This is just the case as the callender falls this year but it is something that could be tweeked a little.

Considering all the resolutions that the LKS voted on this year ....this would have been a good one to have been submitted if it had been realized. Cleaning up the wording would not have been that controversal. On the other hand.... its not going to happen except when the callender cycles around. Factor in the unknowns...weather, what phase the birds are in..... it could be a bust depending on the conditions to provide the best opportunity.

Again...I'm just speculating ....this may not be the case of how it was adopted. There are a lot of the set season dates that deserve review and fine tuning. For 2007.... communication will be key to make the hunting community aware that youth weekend is the weekend before regular season. Hopefully most will realize this and adjust their scouting to prevent interference.

I don't understand the problem??? IMO, the youth hunt has precedence of any scouting that might happen. Too much scouting messes up the hunt anyway. Someone wants to scout, have them find a youngster to take hunting.

Agree multi!! Most of us have hunted so long in the same area we pretty much know where we are going to find birds. But I see his point as some don't respect others and could interfere in his hunt with his daughter. I had that happen a few years back hunting with my son on a WMA and it is frustrating, so I see where he is coming from.

I agree. But u can't expect those that don't take a kid( majority don't) to stay out of the woods the weekend b4 the season. I don't scout anymore, haven't for several years. It wouldn't have taken much time to reword the youth hunt beginning. Im not saying this will b a disaster, just should have asked around for input. I sure don't remember any heads up on this one.

Understand that ALL opening days in Kentucky are on traditional days. First Sat. type of deals, etc. Nothing new, and no heads up needed on this because it's the same as last year except for the calender shift.

I agree also. You are more apt to be still and pay attention to turkey movements if you are on an actual hunt than opposed to just scouting. Plus you give a kid a chance to experience something that they might turn out to enjoy. I know it is not true to all, but most people were taken hunting their first time opposed to just jumping into the sport.
