Anyone know of any good primitive camp sites below the dam? A place to take the family to fish?

The only place I know of is the campgrounds below the dam by the fish hatchery, I am going to be there this weekend to hopefully catch a few myself.

You cannot camp there but a pretty, fun place to fish is the "rock house", which is a huge natural bridge right on the river. It is listed on the KY map book.

If you are talking about by the dam at lake cumberland, there is a campground there. It is called Wolf Creek, and it is run by the Corp of Engineers. Fills up fast during holidays. Cliff and I stayed there a few years ago. Campsites are nice but there is no breeze blowing through the campground, and it gets hot down there. It is really nice down by the creek, if you can get a campsite there. Go down in the morning right after sunrise and watch the mist and fog. there are a few places to fish from the bank, but not many for kids. Hope this helps. :)

Kendall is the only campground below the dam. 99% of the land below the dam is privately owned. The landowners own to the low water mark. Which also means the islands are privately owned as well. Wolf Creek Outfitters is opening a new camp/RV park below the Dam. It is located off Kaufman Rd. just off R Mann Rd. They are on the Lake Cumberland web site I think. But their phone # is 270-343-2510. They have a couple of cabins for rent also. The owners are Roy & Sandy Shell. They are nice people. If you need anymore info. just PM me.

I think you can camp at the Traces =
http://www.tracesonthecumberland.com/

I also seem to remember hearing about some camping in Burkesville.
You might look up CumberlandCanoe.Com and ask about primitive camping.

Kendall has lost a lot of its beauty since the pines all died and had to be cut down IMO.Its still a great place but it just doesn't seem the same without the pines.

It sure doesn't have that same beauty it had when the pines were alive. Kinda makes you sad.

You can thank the southern Pine Beetle for that,it eventually made it's way across Kentucky.
