Seems as Turkey hunters we HAVE to get up at 3:00am to hunts these birds. Over the years I have been involed with more Turkey kills after that 9:00am time. I would like to know Who said we need to get up at this time of the morning just to hunt[}:)] What time do you get started ??...BT

some of the easiest turkey hunts i have been on were later in the day..
it seems those early morning hunts start off looking/sounding good but can sudden change.....and make ya work your butt off....but thats where the fun starts makes you feel really good when you finally out smart a tough bird

I've only turkey hunted for two years, and I'm not sure I would call my first year hunting, didn't do very well and had no confidence where I was hunting. However this year I got two birds, both around 10:00 AM. This first one I was out early the second one I didn't get out until 8:30.

I try my best to be in the area I suspect the birds are while it's still black. That's especially true if I roosted them the night before, because I like to get close. But if it's a rainy, dark morning I don't worry about getting in real early. The birds are going to stay on the roost longer and probably go to openings. Sometimes it's better to scope the surroundings in dim light in that situation.

I'm out there before daylight, but I don't get discouraged if things don't work out "off the roost". If other commitments keep me from being there for daybreak, I'll just head out when I get the chance.
I'll never understand the guys that give up at 0900, day after day. Guess they just don't have the fever like I do.

I like that 09:00-11:00 time frame. Seems the gooblers always fly off the roost, head to the hens and then come back looking for that odd sounding hen (me). I've shot most of my birds in this time frame. I never get discouraged if I don't have one come to me first thing in the AM. I've gone back to the cabin ate breakfast and then went back to the same tree I sat under and called them in later that morning......patience grasshopper, patience......

I like to be in position by daybreak. This way I have the ability to move depending on where the birds are gobblin. I enjoy working birds off the roost but my turkeys this year came between 10:00 and 12:00.
How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door your on.

I am out there all day. Even when the birds arent working the weather is nice, the skies are clear, and a breeze is blowing. What more do you need to clear your head from the problems of the world.

In the fall, do you care what time you get out? I plan to be out right before sunset. I hope to get one tomorrow. I'll fill everyone in if so!
See ya, Mike

This spring I was lucky enough to tag 4 birds in two different states. ALL four were taken after 11AM[:0]. Hard to believe but true. Even so nothing beats watching the sun come up and hearing one gobble from the roost.
It's now about 5:30am and I'll be leaving in about 20 minutes for a close by (Clarks River NWR) fall turkey hunt. I'll sit in the car until it lightens up enough to keep from making too much noise crashing through the woods. I scouted yesterday and didn't locate any birds or I'd start a lot earlier and try and be close to where I guessed they were spending the night. Fall birds seem to me to be as vocal as spring birds, except for the gobbling. Maybe even more so.
Good luck to everyone today. It is very windy here in westen KY right now. I'm not too optimistic about this morning but wouldn't miss an opening day if it could be helped.

Latest take on a Spring Turkey has been 9:30 a.m. The Fall season is more an afternoon thing for me. You can pattern them pretty easily & it doesn't matter where they roost.
