Just saw about 8 poults running along the road before they scampered to the tall grass. They were only about 6" tall, so they couldn't have been more than a few days old. I didn't see their mom.
I also saw a couple of hens dusting in other areas. Both hens were by themselves (no poults with either).

I Rode my 4-Wheeler on our farm on Thursday. A hen jumped up an ran off about 2 ft from my tire so I stopped.... when I took off again 1 poult flew up in the tree above me. That thing was no bigger that a big quail!! There may have been others in the field that I didn't see, but its good to know that they can already roost in trees so they won't get drowned.

I saw 2 hens last week-end on our property in Morgan Co. No poults with either. Hope the cool weather didn't hurt the hatch.

Checking trail cams today and saw 2 hens with 14 poults, all in one flock. Drove in to the next field not 100 yards away and there was another hen with only 1 poult. These poults were all about the size of a small Banty hen and were able to fly about 10 yards at a time.:)

I saw a hen with some poults going over a freshly cut hay field yesterday afternoon. They spotted me and took off before I could count them but I'm guessing there were about 5 or 6 of them.

Well i just finished cutting grass and had my first sighting... 6 poults took flight :) (tried to anyway, about 10 yards max in air) and momma hen was laying low in the tall grass, she kept popping that head up surveying the situation...Glad I didn't mow'em over http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i214/yungun44/18.gif

Went throught Mammoth Cave today and saw a hen on the side of the road with 6 to 8 poults. These poults were only a few day old, very small.
Been watching a nest near a field. They hatched monday. 6 out of 8 eggs.

I've been watching two hens, each with about 6 to 8 poults, every day. They keep returning to a field in which I often see coyotes. I don't see how the hens keep them safe from the coyotes and foxes that roam that field.

We found a hen on my father-n-laws farm yesterday sitting on a nest with 8 eggs in it. I've been seeing her bugging 2-3 times per week in that area.

So, for those of you that have seen the last couple of years hatches in your area, how do you believe this year stacks up with the last couple? Basing iy solely on the poults you all have been seeing.

Stacking up 2b much better than last year. Saw 2 hens with a dozen poults Sunday in the Henderson Co bottoms!
