This spider was found on Sunday next to our hunting camp! One ugly sucker! Just how poisonus are these things?

They aren't really poisonous enough to kill a grown man (unless you have an allergic reaction), but they can be deadly to a young child. They usually stay pretty close to their surroundings, so you could take it far away from the house and release it and be confident that you will never see it again.

Or you could step on it and really never have to worry about it besides the little red spot it will leave on the floor. lol

I'll go out on a limb and predict that that black widow didn't survive Doemaster's "relocation" efforts.

I found one at my house 2 yrs ago and put it in a bottle for a little show and tell. Danged fragile spider didn't survive 2 hours (and yes, I poked holes in the bottle).

After it died, it took a little swim in the toilet. Interment at sea so to speak.

Any of you with an outside doghouse should lift it in the middle of summer. What you find under there might surprise you. ;)

That's about the only place I ever see them.

There are alot of things i dont mind (snakes, ticks, etc.), but spiders, i cant stand to look at them. Any spider i see is a dead one, especially one like that. Just one more on this eath that we dont have to worry about!:D

Doghouses, old lumber or firewood piles, those things are alot thicker than you think. I have found most of mine under rocks or in the void of concrete blocks. They need some room so their victims can travel to them. I used to find them as a kid and think, "Boy that looks just like those pictures of Black Widows."

Pap finally showed me one and I was astounded. I thought poisionous critters were always rare.

If you're really worried about the spot where you found her, don't bother with sprays.

One neat thing that I picked up during my short stint as a pest control "Bug assassin" is that spider's bodies ride too high off of the ground to effectively control with sprays.

Fumigation (big hassle and kinda dangerous) or the "dusting" of their webs is about the only way to get them under control, and that goes for common house spiders as well regardless what the orkin man might tell you.

They almost shut down my factory because of those! Last fall some co-workers found a nest of them in on of the emergency eye wash stations. Then we all started looking and found 32 of them and that was just in our department! Management said they sprayed for them but I call BS.

Last fall I found one under my 3year old sons sandbox. It was a pretty big one. I put it in a mason jar with a non poisionus spider that was twice as big and the next morning only the non poisionous one was there. I thought that was pretty neat.

I was bitten by a black widow a few years back. It was hiding in the tread of one of my boots and got my middle finger when I was putting them on. It hurt like crazy the second it got me and almost had me in tears within an hour. The next day the pain was much better but my whole arm and even my back was a little sore. It felt like I had worked out too hard or something. I think I was completely over it within 4 days except for just a very mild pain in my finger where the bite was.
From what I understand they're not really dangerous unless your very young/old or are allergic to them. It'll definitely ruin your day though.

i am a member of the N.M.R.A and in our monthly magizine there is a story about a guy who was camping in a rockhouse in eastern ky.he was sleeping and he was woken up by a spider crawling into his ear he went after it and coudnt get it out and of course it bit him on the inside of his ear.he got very sick for a day(and major headache).he was by himself and had about a 25 mile hike to his truck.two days later he got too his truck feeling better.he went to the docter when he got home the doc pulled out the spider in parts it was a black widow.worse yet it was the second spider to make a home out of his ear(his wife pulled out the 1st spider)it crawled in while he was camping too.

I guess it's the conservationist coming out in me, i have focused my entire college career on conservation, agriculture, enviroment, and wildlife. I have always been more facinated with nature and the outside world than anyting else.

WE are covered up with them at my house and apparently my neighbors house. I have a feeling it has to do with the old barn near by. Any how my daughter left her boots outside I stuck my hand down in it to clean it out out came a little spider and I couldn't get it any further. WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL She puts on her boot (40lbs and age 6) we go down to our hunting spot. She gets in her pink lounge chairs situates her barbie sleeping bag and pillow and gets the movie going and takes off her boots. I see two big blood spots on her socks and the now broken skeletons of two black widow spiders. Apparently the boots were tigh enough that when she put her feet in them she crushed the spiders before they could bite her.

I"M STILL SICK OVER IT!!!

my wife and I had been arguing for awhile on her wanting to remove a stone border i had built around a flower bed. not but about a month ago she calls me while I'm at training getting ready for deployment to Iraq and tells me the arguement is over. she had knocked part of it over while mowing and while rearranging them she found several black widow spiders. Needless to say she gloved up and removed all the rocks herself. It was actually pretty brave of her. I once saw her throw a shoe at a common lil house spider crawling on the wall. I suppose it is a mother's instinct. The flower garden is near where the kids play.
