I have no turkey hunting sperience but know that you guys use owl and crow calls to get the birds to vocalize. Why do they do that? It would seem that the last thing a turkey should do is give his location to an owl.

Turkeys and owls don't get along too good, and will gobble out of reflex mainly. Nobody really knows for sure, but it's most a reflex thing. they will gobble at nearly any sound at times, at other times they won't gobble for nothing.

Yep.. I had one in Missouri that gobbled at thunder, other gun shots, dogs barking, truck doors slamming, a backfire out on the highway, bluejays, crows, etc, etc ,tec.
He gobbled at everythung EXCEPT my calls.
Humbling experience..

AteUp, I'm not a turkey hunter so don't know what I am talking about(that never stops me anyway). Have you ever had someone sneak up behind you and yell? didn't you jump and yell as a reflex action? Unless you are x- military. Then you hit the deck:)
