Know that i have the proper paper work i can tell what happened.
i was set up calling turkey when i heard a light foot step over my left shoulder( i was siting on a down hill slop) so i slowly turned my head around to see what i thought was a turkey sneaking in but to my suprise i was looking into the face of a bobcat at just inches away, so i then spun around and pointed my gun at it and hollerd GET OUT OF HERE but it just took a step back crouched and faced me again and i have no doubt that it was going to jump on me it was at the end of my gun barrell now so i knew i needed to shoot..
i actually hated to do it but i know i didnt have any other option, or time to try anything else.

it was a female that i weighed at 20 pounds.

I had to do the same thing many years ago with a red fox that turned out to be rabid. Game wardens asked me what happened, took the fox for testing, and cleared everything. ( I had just enough time to swing my shotgun and fire as the fox ran into the barrel).

had a coyote run right at me last late muzzeloader season while I was sitting in the woods. It came in with another ,when I shot at one it ran off and the other one ran right at me with fangs and its hair raised up. I dont think I ever reloaded a muzzeloader that fast in my life LOL shot him at ten yards. I think it had something wrong with it because it had no fear of me whatsoever...

thats an odd story bobcats realize when they run across a human and will turn and run..as will a yote if it spots you and my sucspicions say cat is a lil more weary than a yote..doubt very seriously the lil cat was gonna pounce you ...heck aint no bobcat gonna try to take a grown man...been there seen em, seen yotes come in to calls and run also..but yote are a lil more easy..good story to tell a co to kill a cat though give ya that..

Jeff,
Taxidermist shouldn't have no problem with a 2" hole. Just a matter of sewing it up.Might want to take into consideration location of entry hole relative to "show side" of mount. I assume she had shed her winter coat. Will not be as nice with summer coat , but, will be better than going to waste.

Good Lord, I don't know Jeff, but he deserves the benefit of the doubt. It is arrogant to question someone based on a total lack of information.

I'm with you. If you weren't there, who are you to question it. I personally have never seen an aggresive bobcat, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't happen. If the GW/CO verified it then go with it. I would get it mounted, a good taxi can fix it up nice for ya.

Bobcat Attacks Hiker

From Yahoo News 15 th July 2002

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A bobcat attacked a hiker at a state nature reserve, charged a park ranger's truck and lunged at another ranger before it was killed, authorities said. They suspect the cat was rabid.

A wildlife officer fatally shot the cat Sunday as it hung from a ranger's arm, officials said.

"This is extremely unusual behavior. They usually flee at the sight of a person," said wildlife commission Lt. Jeff Gier. He said bobcats hunt at night and are rarely seen during the day.

Todd Long, 37, was hiking at Rock Springs Run State Reserve when he said he heard "a shrill meow" and saw a bobcat poised to attack. Long said he put up his arms to deflect the cat, but instead caught the 35-pound animal.

"Here I am holding this thing and shaking it, and finally realizing that it's not doing any good," Long said, "so I threw it in the bushes."

The cat, as big as a medium-sized dog, pounced again minutes later and Long said he hit him about a dozen times with a stick, breaking the stick into pieces.

He walked a couple of miles to find a ranger, and the pair returned in a truck. The cat then attacked the vehicle and tried to get in the cab, clawing the grill and rear bumper.

Lt. Laura DeWald, of the Department of Environmental Protection, and Officer John Giles of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, arrived with a pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun.

The cat jumped on DeWald after she fired three or four shots. Giles then killed the animal as it hung from her arm.

Long and DeWald were taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for treatment and testing.
