I have hunted turkeys for a long time but I have a question I hope someone can give me an answer to.Do all hens nest at some point during the spring?Do they have to be bred before they will nest or will they nest regardless?There seems to be an awful lot of hens still bunched up walking around.

Can't answer that one, but here is another that is related. Do nesting birds roost in trees at night and leave their nests?

Some hens don't nest, and they are usually jenny hens, which are first year hens.
Hens lay one egg a day, and they return to roost in a tree each night while laying. Once they lay their last egg, they then begin to nest, and all eggs will incubate at the same time, regardless that some eggs were layed days or weeks earlier than the last egg.
When they start nesting, they will remain on the nest all the time, except for a few small feeding sessions a day.

How do they know when it's "the last egg"??????

I saw one nest with 13 and one nest with 19 eggs.

A hen has to be bred only once.
